Hi Everyone,

I really like blue rams but wonder if my tank is too small?

My tank is 60 litres and is currently cycling.

Thanks,

Martyn

Could probably fit 6 or so in.

no way. you cant. think like this

its a 12gal tank
rams get to around 3" so 6x3" = 18"

soo

1, thts way overstocked
2, like anyother cichlid they would end up righting for a piece of "GRAVEL/SAND" as there terrotery not a cave etc.

Martyn413,

dont listen to Mystix, just get a pair 2 will be fine :)

am buying my self 2 pairs of blue rams this afternoon they are going into my community tank which is a 96 litre (20 gallon ish)

blue rams die in hundreds of thousands of tanks long before they reach their true maximum size

i would only get a pair in there. there isnt enough terrotry. theyll fight and you will end up with 2 females and one male. just geta pair or 2 females and one male.

yes but say oscars max size is 16" but in aqrias often around 10". so i buy a tank to cater for a oscar of 10" what if it grow on to 16" ? you need to cater for there max size. not for there average size.

Hi all,

the reason i ask is because Rams require their own space. In a 60l tank, could i have any tank mates or just 2 rams on their own?

Martyn

you can have tankmates so long as they are appropriately chosen. the rams will pretty much stay around the bottom of the tank, virtually any top swimmers will be fine as they are not outcompeting the rams for territory.

as long as there are enough covers/hiding spaces for all of them then some cories or a BN plec could also work, however in a 60l tank i'd just stick to the pair of rams and 1/2 shoals of mid-top water swimmers

Thanks for the advise.

Something tells me not to get the rams. next year, hopefully i should be buying a house and will upgrade my fish tank to a juwel trigon 190 (wanted the 350 but my cousin said it would be too big), i think i'll wait until then. That way they will have enough room and there will be room for a few tank mates.

Martyn

bah the 350's not too big (i've got one) it's a lovely size tank for a community, loads of variety and space :D lol

When i go shopping for a new tank, i will consider it. It would be nice becuase there is plenty of room - i'd keep it under stocked so they have room.

Did you have to do anything to the floor - (tank weight)
