What kind of personality does the blue acara have is it an aggresive kind of fish I'm looking to get one but I don't want a cichlid that's very aggresive

I have some young blue acara at the moment from 1" - about 3" they are the first ones I have kept and I think they are absolutely great, they are really cheeky and always at the front of the tank (very greedy too) I have 4 larger ones (about 4")in my main tank with 2 serverums, a firemouth, an elliotti and a rtbs the acara are very quiet and tend to stay together, they do chase each other occasionally, but no fin nipping or nastyness.

Oh yea I'm real
keen on getting one therre a loverly looking fish what sizes are your tanks will one be ok in a 3 ft x 2 x 2 ft ? Or is it best to get 2. I already have 3 bolivians 3 African butterflys and 3 cribensis and sum bristle noes and 2 clown loaches will they suit this set up with out over crowding the tank

Copied this info for you..

The Blue Acara is a good introduction to the medium sized Cichlids of this type. Whilst territorial, the fish are generally tolerant of others and unless breeding, when they become very defensive, they are generally peaceful. The fish form pairs, and it is best to keep them this way. For aquariums up to 90cm, a single pair is best to avoid fights should one pair decide to breed.
Blue Acaras are adaptable to a wide range of conditions and can even be kept in cool water. In nature the fish feeds on insects, aquatic animals and crustaceans, so the addition of live or frozen meaty foods like bloodworm will be of benefit. Because of their size and diet, good filtration and monitoring of nitrates is essential. Hardy plants may be ignored, but other vegetation may be damaged. Whilst the fish prefer a sandy or fine substrate, they can be kept in almost any aquarium with a few hiding places.

This is a list of fish the acara is suppose to be compatable with

Hope this helps

seetrix your tank is way over stocked dont add more cichlids your lucky nothing has gone wrong yet 9 cichlids in a 3 foot tank is far too many if you are getting a six foot tank in the future wait for that but seriously please at least consider the advice I have given in the past

I had a pushy male that picked on smaller cichlids. He ended up harassing my little ram to death. I sold him. I now have a breeding pair they fight eachother when its time to spawn they are crazy. they don't bother the other fish only when they have eggs or fry. even then they are not that bad. my female is the more aggressive one.

They are peaceful but will bully smaller cichlids but do fine with tetras. They should be kept with other cichlids of similar size and temperament.
