Hi

I have 3 clown loaches and want to put in 3 Red finned Black sharks.

Is this a good idea? Will the sharks attack the clowns? If so would it also happen if I just put in 1 shark?

Thanks

These sharks need to be kept one per tank, As they mature they do not tolerate any of their same kind and adding multiple sharks to a tank will only result in a number of deaths leaving only the most dominant shark.

The shark will be fine with the clowns if you have an adequate tank size :good:

My tank is 200ltr and has about 15 fish in it. Is this big enough to mix the shark with the clowns? I do plan to add another 10 fish or so tho

200L is the minimum suggested tank size for a RTB or Rainbow shark so yes it is just about ok,

However the Clown Loach will need a tank around double this size as they mature.

Thanks. I thought 200ltr was a decent size. Not many people have a 400ltr tank in the UK

You're correct that 200l is a good sized tank, as it allows you to have a wide range of really nice fish.

But it just isn't even close to being adequate an adequate size for the clowns. 400l + tanks are readily available and plenty of people have them.
If you wish to keep the clowns long term then it really isn't fair or excuseable that they are kept in a 200l.

I'll review the situation with them sometime next year. There are pretty young & small at the moment

:hyper:

I think you'd be surprised how many of us in the UK have big tanks.

If you wait until next year to 'review the situation' then lasting damage may already have been done to the loaches.

I agree, keeping them in a 200l will stunt them. Also Clowns need to be kept in groups of more than 3. Oh, and loads of peeps have large tanks, I know lots of people who have tanks that put my 160g to shame...
