regarding the black stuff, does it wipe off easily and float around in pieces or sheets?
If so it is blue green algae (Cyanobacter bacteria). This grows in tanks with lots of nutrients and low oxygen levels. The easiest way to get rid of it is to do more frequent water changes and gravel cleans. Also reduce the feeding, particularly of dry foods like flake. And increase water movement around the tank.
10% water changes each week might be enough but you should check the nitrates in the tank. If they are going up rapidly each week then do bigger water changes to dilute the nitrates. I usually recommend 30% each week.
