Biube 35Ltr Shrimp Tank - Plants?

Looks awesome, The more and more i look at these tanks. I hated the idea of them at first, but now there growing on me, and i do fancie a setup like that with a single beta and some shrimp :)

What you using for your heater and filter? I currently have a 30l biorb with a goldfish in and will be converting it once she dies and would love to do a sand substrate tropical in it.

K

Filter is a Marina i25 Internal and heater is a cheap 25w from eBay. I think the Biorbs are slightly more difficult, you can;t take out the bottom filter bit but could sand over the top of it for the same effect I suppose...

Cheers, I get slightly annoyed when people dismiss Biorbs and Biubes, they are fine if used properly, althought I wouldnt personally buy a Biorb (the round one). I had a single betta previous to the Shrimp tank now and it was great for him :)

Although shrimp and bettas won;t really mix lol

I'll try and get some better pics up tomorrow

The vallis was a good choice. I was going to suggest rotala rotundifolia nanshan if I write that correctly. The small leaves make your think look bigger. I would put anubia barteri petite on the horizontal part of your wood and fill the 'branch' part with moss. Then you would be all set.

Thanks for the comment

Shrimp! haha they seemed to love climbing to the peak of the wood. Also, Im thinking of stuffing that hole with moss? What do you think

Any recommendations on which moss I should try out? What is the best?

Lovely looking tank, my Biube also houses a couple of shrimp but I have decided not to take out the media at the bottom and just leave it as it is. If I were you I would add some stem plants to the back, my shrimp absolutely adore them (Cabomba is good but there are plenty others out there). Funnily enough I am looking to buy a Rio 180 later this year but sadly I wanted it in Beech and I prefer to buy things new, good luck on selling it anyway. I'd say Java moss is your best bet but I do like the look of Xmas moss a bit more. Check out my signature link if you want any ideas.

Hope everything carries on going well! :good:

Thanks for the comment ATK, at the moment there isnt much in it, i had a tank change rio 180 to 300 so i had to use the biube to hold some of my stocking from my larger tank. Unfortunately angelfish and shrimps dont mix as you can imagine lol i think there is around two survivors.

Im un-decided on what to do with this tank, i was gonna sell it but it was damaged in transit when i bought it and i had to superglue it at the back, so i dont really think ill get anything much from selling it... Just tryin to get my 300 straight atm, lookout for my log, ill start it soon

I have a Biube like that,at the moment it has Tetras in it,waiting for my Rio 180 to cycle.
I also have a 100 lt tank with a mixture of shrimp.just over 40 CRS(4-5 are carrying) and 4 of Ea of CRS,Bee shrimps(1 carrying)
Was thinking of moving the Crystal reds over into the Biube, this will stop them x-breeding with my Crsytal reds.
I like the look of that.

Yeah sounds like a good idea, i really like crs shrimps, are you gonna be selling the fry?

I find this tank really easy to maintain aswell, especially with just shrimp

I will be selling the Fry,once i have a good established colony.
Will only sell them to buy in new fresh bloodlines.

Have just noticed in my RCS tank that i have a lot of very small 2-3 mm shrimps.Must be RCS fry.Have 5 or 6 other RCS carrying eggs under them,Will have a lot of these soon.
The CBS is still carrying eggs,so cant be them.Egss are about 1 ish mm now, think she must be close to dropping them.

What filter have you used in your Biube?

Benn offered for free a 2ft tank, might have that for the shrimp and sell the Biube.

Sounds like them shrimp have been busy. a free tank? Definately go for that, plus its got a larger volume

The filter is a Marina i25

Noticed earlier when feeding them that there are at least 8 females, all carrying eggs under them. One of the females the eggs have gone a green colour, and the eggs are huge.

Looks like i need to sort a tank ASAP

Do you cover the inlet on your filter with anything?

I find that a fry sponge isn't suitable for preventing the fry getting sucked into the filter. I cut up an old fish net (fine mesh) and put it over the intake. I haven't had one baby go in since then and it doesn't clog like it did when I used pantyhose.

Looks a million times better than the original setup.
That's interesting that you don't need to add salt for the gobies!

Interesting and I'm sorry to say for the most part wrong! Yes BB's can tolerate fresh water but it will shorten their life span. They do much better and live longer in a low end brackish environment :good:

Love the tank by the way....looks amazing!
