i have just seen a article which seems to be claiming instant cycling with this product, anyone tried it and what do you think of it.
thanks.

I've heard that it's supposed to work although I've never been able to find it in any of the lfs I visit (4 lfs near home, 3 lfs near girlfriend's parent's home). Perhaps it's not available in the UK.

theres a post on here from terminator with a link to a supplier in the uk.

Dave,
You will love this stuff! It is the real deal. I don't sell it, but know it works! I have successfully used it 3 times with the last tank still beautiful since June. It's great stuff, especially when you have an emergency like I did!

Bio Spira available in the UK

Do they sold this stuff in Canada cause I would love to cycle my new tank quickly.
The only thing i used to get bacteria in my tank is the product called "cycle", It works but it took me a month to get a 10 G cycled. If they have them here i'd probably get it. Gotta to check next time i go to my LFS.

It's kinda like "seeding" your tank. You're actually adding live bacterial cultures to your tank. Works well as opposed to cycling with fish, which IMHO is a NO, NO.

In my case, the tank cycled in about 3 weeks. And I didn't have to cycle by adding ammonia to the tank.

I cycled my 46 gallon community tank with Bio-Spira in nine days. Frankly, I thought my test kits were bad.

Ammonia never got above 1 ppm.
Nitrates never got above 1 ppm.
By day 9, my readings were 0/0/10, and stayed that way for about two months, until nitrates started rising (they hover around 20 now).

Eight weeks after starting, I had a nitrate spike of 0.5 ppm, that went away after two 25% water changes, three days apart.

That tank just passed the four-month mark.

Your mileage may vary (as with just about everything to do with aquaria, it seems :). But, I have to say that based on my experience, I'll try to use it the next time I start up a tank.

I'm afraid that means it didn't work, that's how long it would have taken anyway, give or take. Cycle has never worked for me either.

I personally know someone who had their tank cycled within 36 hours of adding Bio-Spira. I can't get it, I haven't seen it in Canada, but I would buy it with full confidence.

LoveMyOscar, when you bought it, was it refridgerated? I've heard of some uninformed lfs keeping it on the shelves with the other 'cycle' products, and this will kill it.

I think I should add that I agree completely with LMO, cycling the tank properly is not only guraranteed to work, but is good experience in understanding the biofiltration process. I would try bio-spira if I needed to cycle a tank, but I also have many proper cycles behind me, and can deal with the consequenses should I have a bad experience with it like LMO did.

I cannot get bio spira locally, so I have always ordered from Bernie at The Fish Store. His bio spira is very fresh. I think he gets a new shipment every 2 weeks. He also ships to Canada, but shipping can be pricey. He has great customer service. Please keep in mind though that there is a shortage of the stuff at the moment. He may temporarily be out for a few weeks. He has an 800 number you can call on his site to find out.
