I bought my tetra aqua art 30 litre years ago,i was given my 90litre,my 55 gal cost £80 with stand and lots of extras, heaters, books food etc.
The twin 10 gal tanks cost me a tenner :)

I still have the 30l & 90l in the shed,if only i had room to set them up...

Good price for your 6ft tank amy :good:

I've got my eyes peeled on ebay for a 6 foot tank, i check daily, problem i find is a lot of them are ex display ones from shops, with scratches, other have been left in garages our outside for months and are badly water stained. Im only after the glass tank, i plan to build my own stand and hood/lighting, just not seen anything suitable yet. :X

I'm in the process of searching the perfect tank to go next to my other sofa...2-3 foot and about 18 inch tall. Most of the ones local to me don't have stands with them, and I definitely need a stand. I so cba with building one! I did see one on AC, am going to show it to my hubby this evening and see what he thinks. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but the more I look at it the more I think "actually yeah..."

I know what the answer will be though. We can't afford it. And he's not wrong...

I look at my 350ltr and also think its tiny. I regret it totally that I sold my 700ltr two years ago.

I'd kill for a 120gallon eventually. I don't think I'll be getting another until we move though. Our 36 gallon is set up in the kitchen on our island. We have a split level home, and in the winter it gets cold downstairs, so I'd hate to put a tank where it is awful drafty. Not to mention I couldn't imagine have 30 gallon weekly water changes for maintenance hahaha.

The question is, if you got a beast of a tank, would you put beastly fish in it, or stick to smaller fish?

for me it started 12 years ago when i got a 18x10x10 which i soon got bored with then got 2 tanks on a stand from my then father in law who had given up fish they were 30x12x12, then moved out from the ex and in with my now wife then went and bought a new 150L 4ft tank. then moved house with loads more room :hyper: then was a 3 foot tank in the paper cheap so got that when i got there he had 3 for sale the 3 foot a 4 foot and a 2ft 6 and got the lot for £100 so got all them set up and running with various species then see a 6 footer in the paper for £30  and couldnt resist (how i got that home in a metro i dont know) found an old sideboard at the tip that was 6x2 so got it did it up and took the legs off, so at this point i had
2 x 2ft6 tanks (2x71) 142L guppys mollys and platys
1 x 4ft 150L 2 x 6 inch cichlids, hornet ? cant remember the names but got them free from lfs
1 x 4ft 170L barb tank
1 x 2ft6 106L fry tank from the livebearer tanks
1 x 3ft 127L single oscar named phsyco got from a mate as no one would take it and he said he would flush it
1 x 6ft 680L coldwater tank with orandas, hillstream loaches, comets and a yellow ghost kio, and some normal ghost kio (used this tank as a grow on for my pond
so in total 1375L
and the water changes were horriffic i was doing them every night nearly in the end something had to give as id started up pigeon racing again so all stock was sold off and cut down to the 1 4ft tank which went through various stockings then couldnt resist and bought the duo 800, now come to my senses and got a roma 240 which has the stocking im happy with and will be for a log while and even the wife and mother in law says looks fantastic :good: :good: :good: :good: :good:
just looking for 1 more tank now, a little one that will fit in the roma cabinet as a fry / hospital tank

I got a 180 litre juwel bow-fronted tank from someone selling it locally, £40, no hood but a canopy light and a eheim pro external filter/heater!
Very cheap but it has a lot of scratches, i polished them out as best i could, but to me, i don't care about the scratches, the tank is in my bedroom so it's just for me! However there is on scratch that really annoys me! hahaha

My tank still seems massive to me at the moment... wonder how long that'll last!

I started 2 months ago with a 50 litre tank from my father in law, I then bought a 125 litre tank, I then bought a 200 litre 4ft tank, which cracked. I nearly cried. I then picked up another 4 ft tank, all in the space of 3 months.

So at the moment I am running a 50 and a 175 litre tanks. I am trying to convince my dad to set up the 125 litre again, but I dont think he will let me. However he did turn around and say would you like me to buy some fish tomorrow as the tank looks rather empty. So maybe he might come round to the idea :)

I've not even put fish in mine yet and think it looks smaller every day it's 170l about 3ft but it's in my front room which merges with my backroom and is on a 20ft + wall that is totally flat so I could potentially house a huge tank there but as i've not even put fish in yet I think I'll wait some time before upgrading lol

Quick question; what sort of stock levels could i have in my 850l? Its going to have either 2 FX5s on it or an FX5 and a Eheim 2180 heated by inline heaters. The fish im having will be abot 4-5cm MAXIMUM when fully grown except for possibly 3-4 6" plecs.

Thanks in advance.

I started off with a 15gal and upgraded to a 55 gal within 4 months. I then bought another 8gal some time later. I replaced my original 15gal with a 10gal.

When I got my 55gal, I was amazed at the size. I'm grateful for a tank that size. Would obviously love something bigger, around 100gal.

James.

55gal for £80 thats a bargain. Where was that from? Everywhere I see tanks they are expensive. and something like 55gal is well over £100

Alas I couldn't have anything too big in my bedroom, the weight is the main problem, being on the first floor of a rather old house. I'd be scared of it falling through the floor

I remember when my Rio 180 arrived in March and I couldn't get over how HUUUUGE it was...and less than a week later I was sulking because it wasn't big enough! Already started saving to upgrade to 300l+ in a year or so. And family just don't get it!
I get like that. My Rio 240 was MASSIVE when I got it. It was the biggest fish tank in the whole world! now (6 years later) and for some time, I look at it and think "god, isn't it small..!" I'd love a 6 footer but it wouldn't fit in the space so I'm contenting myself with upgrading to a Rio 400 when I can.
 - i know that feeling well!
I could move my 6ft settee out to make way for a bigger tank, but i don't think my family would appreciate sitting on the floor!!

I'm glad i'm not the only one, keep them coming :)
a friend of mine has just built a tank in his lounge 7'x2'6"x3' works out at 3000litres with a 200liter sump tank
for filtration lit by 10x10000k halogen bulbs thats what i call a tank

i would love a bigger tank but with 2x 1ft tanks, 3x 2ft tanks and 2x 3ft tanks space is my only issue!

I bought it second hand local, the seller found it in his garage when he bought a house, from the books it use to have cichlids in it,and the tank had to have a good clean,it had a mouldy smell to it,think it was the jewel backing fixed on with tons of silicone was thick with algae,so spent best part of a day scraping off the backing & silicone, but was worth the £80 and the hard work  :good:
