Big Big Project

If you have 25k to set it up I would say let a professional do it. Theres a couple companys in columbus that do custon tanks for buisness and more well to do homes ect. every now and then they sell the ones they have taken down on craigslist :p. They sell the used ones for like 4-5k so new I would say 10-15k. Better to let a pro do it then half destroy yer home. Also you can go a ridiculous size with out going to 900+ gallons.

Very true you guys, probably better let a pro do it and there is a constant income and that 25k is just for the setup and fish, its not for the food and other stuff, now Ive got to find someone.

You all would probably think im crazy but im going to make into a normal community aquarium except it would be like -

40 corys
60 neon tetras
2 common plecs
10 clown loaches
25 platys
etc....

whys that insane? ive seen 10foot lond communitys.

true but i might stick with some cichlid and community mix, bearing in mind this tank is 20 feet+

will my stocking go?

i look forward to any progression this makes. i think stocking is a long way off, focus on finding someone who can build this thing! where are you going to house it? are you going to make a separate shed or building for it?

50'' tall??

You need minimum 20mm glass..
I think the glass only, cost well over your budget...

Trust me.. I am forced to settle for 30'' high ... Just because of the cost.. I am trying to build a 96x30x30. ..

10mm 24x24.. Cost £400 (cheapest possible in uk.. from ac aquatics)

12mm 30x30 cost £1000...

15mm 36x36 Cost £4.600...

See how is the glass price gos..

here is an example of what I said about the local place that puts thier taken down tanks on craigslist

now all i need is the money... oh wait I am poor lol

if this dream of yours comes true make sure you take pictures all the way and get them on here would love to see a tank of that size in a house

Not giving up just some difficulties with the funds, had to use half of the money to repair some damage of my Uncles house - His roof collapsed and it cost quite a bit to sort out and he really had no money so I had to prioritize.
Funds are really low so just sorting that out then im back on track!

Snake it will be great if you make a deposit fund for a dream like this, see if you want to have a safe and long term going I can give you some simple financial mgmt technique. Projects like these can be huge 'fund-suckers' in the long term.

What i will suggest is that whatever you have estimated don`t start until you have twice that amount for minimum so if its 25k you think don`t begin unless you have a minimum of 50k with yourself. The plan is to let the 25k be incurred for the formation and the remaining 25k to help you with the monthly running expenses. You are supposed to invest the 25k in fixed income generating bonds or maybe in a portfolio made up of equity and debt instruments.

Also if you have good connections then try to get in touch with the the local tourism development department. Your aquarium can be the biggest 'in house aquarium' in the state, so it can be a 'tourist cum enthusiast must see'. Also you can get pet magazines feature an article for you once its done for getting some perks from marketing. Honestly this can be great if it works out good. Also there must be local fish enthusiast circles you should also get in touch with them so that you can get the in tank stuff for the most economical price.

Whatever i have said can work, all you need is effort and perseverance. B-) :good: :good:
