we have a Ferplast rekord cage for our two canaries and it has the drink holders which clip onto the side of the cage and with a lid on. My canary got into it yesterday, we presume for a bath and she drowned becuase we were all out,. she couldnt get back out of the hole. Please, please dont put water in them!

OH MY GOD!
i have one of those for water on my birds cage since it is a smaller cage and i want as much room as possible!
pickle (my budgie) jammed himself inside the other day, (he loves to make forts) and only his tail and bum were sticking out
i will destroy this new evil immediatley!
i shall hurl it into the sun!

ok,
don't worry i am seriously getting rid of it,
that sux about your bird
just a little humor to lighten the mood (so many deaths lately :-( )
i hope you feel better soon
thanxs for the info!
your birds death was not in vain,
you have obvoiusly saved a life through my budgie pickle
as he surely would have suffered the same fate eventually :X :byebye:

How do the birds drown in them?
the containers are quite small,
the birds climb inside, (or rather squish themselves through the tiny door)
and cannot get back out
if the climb in upside down like my bird
they could get stuck with their face in the water
sorry to be so graphic pleco person,
but everyone must know :/
i can see how they could be dangerous, i just never stopped to think about it
mine also has a flap that when you pull out the water tray,
a flap comes down to cover the hole in the back (where the tray comes out)
this has brocken a few times and closed with the tray inside
yet another death trap

thats exactly what happened PK. Thanks for your words of support. I had to get her out of the bowl as my mum couldnt. she had just laid some eggs too :(

i am so sorry to hear about your birdie....

i have heard of this problem with many of the water feeders that clip on the side that have the switch on lids and only the tiny hole for the bird to get into....i recommend either the large open hook on inside the cage bowls or a tall water feeder that is impossible for any bird to get stuck into....normally the larger the better though as i have found that the birds are getting stuc k trying to have a wash!
