Will these guys go together? Or will one end up eating the other?

How big do ghost shrimp get and what do they eat??

I'm thinking of doing two things with them:
1)putting a couple by themselves (for now) in a 2.5 minibow (Samson's in a 1/2 gallon hospital tank for the moment)
2)putting one in with Solomon

Now...if bettas don't get along with them and actually eat them, is that such a bad thing? I know some use ghost shrimp as feeders for other fish....is it a good idea/healthy to use them as feeders for bettas? (although that's not my original intent...want a buddy for my bettas)

I tried it once with this huge red betta that I have, within minutes he had it dangling out of his mouth  ,guess he didn't want a buddy :shifty: , a 2.5 is really a waste for ghost shrimp, unless you keep them as feeders or something. I'd add something else if I were you. Maybe you could cycle it and add a dwarf puffer, I'm not sure if a 2.5 is big enough for one but I think I've heard that it is. Or something else ....nothing comes to mind right now though

But shrimp are good feeder, yes. It's no big deal if your betta eats them.

Thanks wuv...I may buy just one and see what Solomon does. I've noticed he actually kind of likes hunting/stalking the freeze dried bloodworms. So if they don't get along...he actually might really enjoy stalking some live prey.

well i dont know actually know if the ghostshrimp would be a good candidate for betta bcuz i had ghostshrimp and i moniterd my tank and the ghostshrimp was eating on my betta's fins so i got rid of the ghostshrimp

that's odd, but not unbelievable, I really don't care for shrimp at all  , ghost shrimp are ok but all the other kind, such as prawn are just evil, my lfs has one that is over 8 inches long , I was watching him chow down on a severum (yeah,it's THAT big) and I just wanted to crush it's head, I know that sounded horrible but I've had some terrible ordeals with prawn in my tanks & I loathe them :grr:

so Scarab, if you DO get one, double triple check that it's a ghost shrimp and nothing else, I have some ghosties in my 29 that just continue to re-produce  , I feed the babes to my eel now & then :p . When Fishy, our old man betta, lived in the 29 his favorite thing to do was stalk ghost shrimp :p :p :D

I put ghost shrimp in my betta & molly tank & came in one night late, to take a peek(w/ a flash light) & found the(a) shrimp holding my bettas pec. fins like reins! :X out they came! they are quite ummmmm hateful IMO.

gotcha...nixing the ghost shrimp idea (for now at least...maybe when I get a larger 10 or 20 gallon...who knows)

I'd really like to put something in Solomon's empty 2.5 gallon right now while he's recovering though. Any ideas?? Or just leave it be?

you could try some kind of snail although my boyfriend's female betta ran around his ten gal. eating every snail she could find. it was quite funny...she'd dig out a snail from the gravel, flick her head, and leave an empty shell. what does everybody else think about snails?

Hold on buddy, you don't have to nix the ghosts.....I have a tank full of them. They do have to be watched for overpopulation, but all in all I love them. Make sure they get enugh food to eat and space to run. The most common proplem I have seen is people trying to put ghosts in a small tank. Then they would have nothing to do but eat Betas. If you dont want them with your betas, try it again with a biger tank, Im sure you will be impressed.

yeah...I'll probably do the shrimp when I get a larger tank...so they're still in the picture

ok...opinions on a snail??

also, what about an ADF?

keep in mind it's a 2.5 gallon

yeah ive done it a few times , with mixed results, its no big deal they cost like 20 cents ,
