I've just begun to keep bettas. I have many other fish and tanks and decided to try my hand at betta keeping. I've got two male veil tails at the moment and will be getting two more male veil tails and one female veil tail this evening. I should have stayed away from the betta section of Aquabid, but I didn't and now I will be getting two more bettas. :hyper:

One white opaque half moon female and one gold double tail half moon male (the auction closed with no bids, but I contacted the seller and was able to purchase him). Here's a the auction picture of the male:

I can't wait to get them! :D I've been doing some research and may try my hand at breeding, but I'm not sure. :/

What a beautiful Betta fish. I'm still new to keeping Bettas as well. My first fish passed away earlier this month, and I'm looking forward to getting another fish. I hope to get a couple of females this time, so that I can have more than one. :)

What a gorgeous boy!

coloradogirl - sorry to hear about your betta. :( :rip:

That kinda looks like a Bettafan fish, is it?

Okay, I'm new at this and am still researching so I'm not sure what deformity you are talking about. Is the double tail considered a deformity? :/

DT is not a deformity, but from the angle of the pic, he looks like he might be a bit shovelheaded, which is when the spine bends more sharply downward than is normal at the head.

Oh, bummer . . . well I still think he's pretty, even if he's a bit off. :D I purchased him from Fantasybettas and I can't wait to get him. :hyper:

I got the two males and one female I talked about in the first post. They are settling in, but one of the males is having a bit of trouble with his tail fin. I'm not sure if it is finrot or what. The top part of his fin is all ragged so it almost looks like a crowntail (but only on the top half of the fin). I'm going to see if some Melafix will help him out. Or is there something else I can/should do for him? Here's a picture of him as he looks today.

He looks like he may be biting his own fins, in which case you'll wanna cut down on stress (like from movement outside the tank) as much as possible first and see if that helps. If not, the problem may be the opposite, that he is bored instead and needs more stimulation. In some fish it is a habitual thing much like OCD in humans and they will bite their fins from time-to-time no matter what you do, but there are things you can do to cut down on it, and some fish are only driven to do it during times of extreme stress.
