Just got my betta a new 1 gallon. It is filtered with an undergravel filter and a light.

I'm just wondering if there are any tank mates that could live with him.

As far as aggresiveness I've tried putting him in with my platies and he chased after them (they are blue tuxedos) but they were too fast for him (hence why is is in a hopefully temporary one gallon now). And I've kept a snail in with him and he tried to nip the snail a couple times but that was it.

So are there any tank mates that could work in his tiny tank?

Thanks :good:

Bettas are aggressive fish and the can't be put together or with an other fish, sorry if thats wrong... If you had a bigger tank you have the option to divide the tank in to ... parts using rectangle shaped glass pieces and put Bettas in each slot.

Yazan is right Bettas can be very agressive, you can house them with other fish but it is not recommended as Bettas prefer to be on there own. If you had to put some thing in with him i would say go with a snail but then just watch him as he may not like that either.

I'd have thought that a betta in a 1g would be the maximum bioload it could cope with. Also, if he's a feisty one there wouldn't be much room to establish safe places/ territories.

The 1 gallon is just barely enough for the one betta. Nothing else can fit in there. If you were to put him into a larger tank there are some other options for betta tankmates, but it sounds like you have an especially aggressive male and I, honestly, wouldn't recommend any other tankmates for him. Sometimes you can get a tankmate that works well with a betta, but it is all dependent on the betta's personality and it seems like yours is a feisty little devil!!

OK thanks guys :) I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I hadn't already though of.

I was pretty suprised when he went after my platys, since they aren't too vibrant and have very short fins. I though about getting just one or two shrimp but then again if he attacked a snail I think I'd wake up the next morning to find a dead shrimp. I though of the snails but my snails are pretty large (over 1").

And I'm hoping to get another tank for him soon. Something larger made of glass with a better filter, lights and a proper heater.

He was in a 3/4 gallon with no filter or light before and the tank he is in now was a good deal ($17 for everything!).

He is just destined to be alone :D
