^^^^ Agreed!

That's a pain about the shipping delay :/ I'm sure they'll be worth the wait though!

I'll try to get a few pics later today.

That does suck about the delays in shipping. .. but they should all make it alive and well if he waits! :) they'll be well worth it!

Ooh how exciting!

Very much looking forward to this (y)

Lost a flame tetra early this morning...

One was hanging out separate from the rest of the group all day yesterday (never a good sign), and I was hoping it was just a bit of shock.  Well, then this morning, during feeding time, he didn't eat at all, and swam past the food, as if completely disinterested or couldn't see it.  The others all ate vigorously.

About an hour later, he was dead.   Really surprised how fast he died. It wasn't completely unexpected, but a heck of a lot faster than I thought it would/could be.  He was swimming fine, but just not eating, then he was completely dead in a matter of just an hour.

Not much to see, but here's a quick pic:

Like how you have used the pots as caves, looks quite nice!

:rip: Sorry to hear about the flame tetra

I am excited for you and your kiddo! I have had a betta sorority for three months. Did some reading on another forum.......cannot recall which one.....and they said not to use clay pots with holes as bettas could become stuck in the holes.

I rolled my eyes. These FISH people! I have had pots for three months with no problems. Got up to get a cup of coffee, glanced in the aquarium, and you guessed it. My Deca was deceased and so firmly wedged in a hole I had to physically pull her out. Her tummy tissue was literally gone from straining.

I removed the pots! The forum said to use marbles and aquarium sealer to block the holes; they recommended one on the outside and one on the inside. I need to purchase sealer and do this.

I got my girls young enough to go through the holes but...they grew.

Good luck!

Interesting note... thanks.  The pots are temporary, until the plants grow in, but I hadn't thought of the hole thing...

In other news, the tank is infested with ICH!  Lost a second flame yesterday and to my dismay noticed each of the surviving 4 covered with ich.   Temp is being raised to 86F, and salt is being added to deal with the ich.  Air stone as well, as the filter I have creates very little ripples, so a bit more agitation is necessary for proper oxygen levels.

Note to self: Will not be buying fish from that Petco anymore.  First fish purchase there, and last fish purchase there.

So, my son is getting his first lesson in fish illnesses.

oh man :(

My local Petco is pretty bad too, I only go there for emergency supplies. I"m surprised to see a tank without any signs of fin rot

Hopefully the ich clears up, and atleast you have time before the ladies arrive :)

Yup... Haven't had to deal with ich since I got back into fishkeeping again. Fun times. :/

Didn't notice any issues when I was there with the fish in the tanks at the Petco, but obviously something wasn't right.  The most important thing is that the fish in my main tank aren't showing any signs of ich.   Normally, I'd have used a QT, but the betta tank IS the QT!

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear that Eagles! D: I hope it clears up quickly.

Oh no! sorry to hear of all your troubles with the Flames, hope you manage to get that sorted quickly.

At least they were not in your main tank

Good point about the pots, the hole being too small, great tip there.

Another thing that works well for the pots (I learned the hard way, but Draco the betta survived!) is that you can cut plastic canvas to size for the holes and wedge it in there, or you can seal it in there with aquarium sealant. :)
