Yes, if we buy them then they think 'oh they seem popular we'll have to get some more betta fish in' the ones i seen were terrible i dont see how they dont realzie there not well. I was once there and a fish was being eaten alive, i told the woman and when she had a look it was dead, she said 'if i was on my shifty then i wouldnt of let that happen' It gives them a bad reputation if some of their fish are behaving the way they are, sick, unactive, shabby, not looking good.
The more thats bought the more that they get in the store time and time again because they must think there popular like backtotropical is kind of stating.
Maybe they dont treat them or care when there ill because they know some fish lover will come along and think 'aww what a shame we should take him home and give him a better life' thats when they make there money.
But i do think betta rescue is good, i guess its alot better if its off a person who can no longer take care of theres not a money making pet shop.
I reckon they should just have a fish inspector who comes int he store montly and checks ont he fish and there health, if the fish arent in goo enough health then they shouldnt let them sell that fish, i know some illness is from stress or whatever but why keep it on disply if so.
I seen a little boy and his mum buying a fish when ig to my betta, he chose a fish and it had some parasites im sure of it they were white sugar grain size and the fish looked a bit thin, why i was waiting at the counter waiting to buy my fish when the fishman was filling out the form for the boys fish, one box he had to fill in said, visibally well ( something like that ) and he ticked yes!
The fish didnt look good and hes just ripped off a customer! I guess the little boy and his mum didnt know much about fish.
money thats all they want, they were going to charge me £4.16 for a betta that was unwell, so i chose another, i know there tropicals so they will be dear but the fish i was oging to get wasnt even anyway near healthy!
