Betta Question

He was going to throw a live fish into a bin? How can people do that? Isn't there a law against it?

Good stuff. Can it be cycled if it's empty tho? Stuff the filter with some sponge from your main tank to make sure, last thing she needs is an ammonia spike.

Yeah I know, thats why I had to take the fish off him and Yep im sure its cycled and took your advice, now the betta is in the 5 gallon and she seems very active now.

Ok don't worry about her feeding, they can be so picky. Try some frozen bloodworm tomorrow if you have any, no fish can resist that. keep the tank super clean. I hope she'll be ok after her lucky escape.

Good Good and yes on wednesday im going to my lfs to get some fish for my 39g so ill pick some up - what else can I feed her?
Should I also get some stress coat for her?

Special betta pellets are available - 2 or 3 a day of those. They float and are easy for them to eat. Dried and frozen bloodworm (any frozen foods really). Fast for one day a week to avoid constipation.

No need for stress coat or any meds unless you see signs of fungal infection etc. Very clean water is the best medicine.

Should I leave her in this 5 gallon for life or should I eventually put her back into the 20 gallon?

She'll be fine in the 5 gall - they're not always good in community tanks, other fish can be stressful. Females in particular can be quite shy and easily stressed. Yes, sometimes it works, but if the alternative of a solitary home is available it's always preferable. They're not social fish really, she won't be lonely. You could maybe add some amano shrimp - big enough not to get eaten and won't breed.

For decor try to get a small broad leafed plant for her to rest on, and something she can hide in too. Coconut cave maybe.

Her fins should grow back in time in good water, though they might not be perfect.

Temperature wise aim for about 26c.
