Betta Question And A Little Confused!

Do you know anyone who can give you some mature media for your filter?

Yah I have a ten gallon cycled tank. I'm probably gunna add the filter media when I add the safestart

Don't take too much though, you don't want to put your cycled tank in jeopardy.

Ensure you test the ammonia from the tank you have taken the media from to seed the filter also, as if its heavily stocked the remaining bacteria may be unable to keep up with what your stock is producing.

And replace the media you take out with some fresh so it can grow its own bacteria again.

thanks for the help everyone!

Jumping in on the end of this thread, my male has lived for a fair while now with 5 white cloud mountain minnows and an ottocinculus in a Betta Lifespace 40 ltr tank, the pump is running at 120lt/hr and temp is set at 24. Some people might say that is slightly warm for wcm minnows, but they are doing fine. They are great tank mates small, agile and not too fancy. He will occaisonly flare at them if they get too close to his nest but he has no chance of catching them. They dont nip unlike certain tetras.
Good luck with it all.
Here is my Male VT and

I do not agree with keeping WCMM with bettas because of the differences in the temperature needs.  Your minnows may seem fine but they really need a cooler temp than what your betta needs and eventually it will take its toll on your minnows as it does stress them to be in temperatures that they are not made for.  Also the oto really needs more of its own kind since they are a schooling species.

I agree with Wildbetta, it's obviously not as bad but it's similar to when people say goldfish are happy in bowls. They may look happy but it's not ideal for them.

Great looking betta though! If a betta has blue on it, I love it :p

Thing is unless you knew that in advance ( I didnt, my knowledge is basicly bettas) the assumption would be as they all come under the title
'tropical' there temperature range would be approx the same. My mistake sorry for the bad advice Nikki77D. I dont know any one with a cool water tank for them, certainly not any lfs around here and I wont be killing them. So I guess they will just have to stay put for the moment. And now I feel bad about causing un-necassary suffering. My other tank is at 24 degrees to. And they wont go in the marine tank.
Should have kept my mouth shut really.

No, it's alright :)
We all make mistakes, in fact there's a thread where everyone has been confessing theirs if you've come across that?
Keep your eyes out for a new home for them but for now, as you said - the best thing would probably be to keep them.

Maybe put an advert on Aquarist Classifieds or something though?

Didn't mean to make anyone feel bad so really sorry if that happened.  :(   Most mistakes are made because of bad advice or misinformation from one or more sources.  The important thing is that now you know and you can watch your fish for any signs of issues.  The minnows may actually be getting on ok just not as well as how they would be in the correct temp range.  I do advise if you get a chance to transfer them to a cooler water tank or pond than that would be the best choice for them in the long run but you keeping your tank in good parameters and taking care of everyone is the most important thing right now.  Your betta is gorgeous and seems very healthy.  Personally I think they should put fish like goldfish and WCMM and there are a couple others under a cool water section instead of just SW or FW like they do at the stores because it does cause misconceptions like this quite frequently.  Also WCMM seem to be one of those fish people like to say can go with bettas especially since a lot of people (pet stores) don't seem to realize that bettas need heated water instead of sitting around in room temp water.

Awe its okay 372xp :) I've made tons of mistakes! But I have to say your betta is one handsome fish!

I got about 5 or 6 guppy fry with my betta now, just the few I decided to keep as they were gonna turn out to look better than the others, he doesn't bother them. However one of them is bigger than the others, he seems to be a male and has black and yellow marking with neon blue body, the betta doesn't let him anywhere near his territory. As long as the other fish in the tank are pretty dull, and have small fins they'll be fine with your betta.
A good choice could be CPD's, if you're having some plants in there, they're gorgeous little fish, and they are agile, with small fins. I'll be picking some up for my betta tank soon (once I part with the last of the guppies - finally).
Here's my betta tank, 35L, sorry for the blurry photo.

Love your betta tank Aviici :)

Now you need to share a pic of your betta :D

I can't get a photo that does him justice with my phone, did one with a camera and it's on photobucket :) He's a lazy little guy, only comes up and to the front when he's either being fed, or when i'm doing water change on big tank haha. Great character in bettas, love em!
