Betta Or Betta?

i pronounce it bayta. simple as that.

I have always said 'beh-tah.'
How do you pronounce plakat? I have tried saying it 'plaa-kat' and 'play-kat'' and 'play-kit.' The last bit on '-kit' was due to my Kentucky accent slipping through
I'm thinking that 'plaa-kat' is right, but it sounds so wrong when I say it. Maybe I'm putting the wrong emphasis on the wrong part, I don't know. I don't think I'll ever get it until I hear someone else say it.

I have heard people pronounce it in two different ways, but when I met a gent from Malaysia and Singapore who are both into Betta's, Amir Gan and Phil Ngo, both pronounce it "beh-tah."

In our club we all pronounce it different But we all mean the same thing. I say "bay-tah" and I know that probably grates on the nerves of some of the "beh-tah" people, but they've grown to accept it. Plus it's a real relaxer for the newer members who say "bay-tah",too.

Yeah...I would agree the first time I went to the LFS to buy a betta and the I said BETA and then she replied oooo a bAta... then for the whole day I felt dumb ... So I would say its bAta ... But spelled Betta. Don't know why. But I guess it is.

I think by the time it comes out of my mouth it's more like bay-dah . I say it fairly quick...so yeah that's how it looks sounded out .
