Hey everyone,

So about 3 or 4 weeks ago I moved my betta into his tank...5.5 gallons (his old home that he was in for his whole life, about a year and a half or so, was a two gallon bowl that got constant water changes to get rid of any ammonia, etc...) but he is NOT looking good...I think he was secure in his bowl and is not really comfortable in his new tank...can't check water parameters right now but I do many water changes and I used mature media for the cycle...he has hiding places in there...but he is constantly just laying on his side, only coming up when I turn the light on and feed him...he swims kind of crooked...I don't know what is going on..the temperature is a constant 78.

Sould I move him back to his bowl? I am setting it up tonight just in case so it is ready...I just wanted your opinions on this

Thank you all so much for any replies
Meg

Edit: forgot to mention that he is constantly clamped and hasn't flared once since moving out of his bowl...where as when he was in his bowl he was constantly flaring and teasing the cat...on purpose

Sounds like the move stressed him out - you have taken him out of his domain and placed him in a new bigger space that he doesnt know, i would keep an eye on him for a few days.

Did you provide some hiding spots for him? He seems to be stressed and a plant, a cup or something to hide in, or behind, may make him feel more secure.

Yes he has hiding spots...And I've been waiting for him to calm down and adjust to his new home, but like I said it has been weeks and he just keeps looking worse :(

thank you for replying

Meggie, you really need to test water - after 3/4 weeks, he would have become used to his new home.

Dont go moving him again if he stressed your just gona make things worse. Leave him settle in .

I'd say do a big water change, making sure it's the same temp. Without tesing the ammonia and nitrite you wouldn't be sure it's not the ammonia/nitrites in the new tank

I will test the water today when I have the chance (And a big water change again) and I will post up the results..

thank you

Edit: As this is no longer much of an emergency I will get further help in the betta section...thank you all so much for your help!
