It's a bad, bad, bad, idea to put a male and two female bettas in that small of a tank. Males and females will only get along if they have both been conditioned to breed, otherwise, it's a blood bath.
I would stick to one male betta in the 5 gallon :good:

You don't cycle a tank by simply letting the water sit. Have a good read through the beginner's section and it will tell you all about what you need to do to cycle it ;)

i agree, only have one male, to just add a female (or more) will likely end in death or serious injury to one or both have a read of the link in my sig on the beginers resource centre, for cycling your tank :good:

okay went to the lfs and saw 1 baby beta absolutly adorable and was wondering if i got the 3 i wanted and they grew up to gether will they fight
also can you determine gender of baby bettas an about half inch long
also how can you tell what type and adult color of the babies
is that even possible

NO, you can't really determine the gender of a betta when it's that little. You have to wait a while longer.

I'm no expert, but i don't think there's such as betta breeds. But I could always be wrong. :)

You need a heater, a filter preferably. You shouldnt put any bettas together. male or female in a tank of that size. I recommend getting Silk Plants or Live Plants..

I don't want to sound rude, but am I really reading this? You really want to risk putting several betta's into a tank and expect them to live happily?

I personally would just have one male Betta in a 5 gallon tank... Anything more, in my opinion. Is just plain cruel...

Get a filter simular to this.

One pair conditioned would be fine with plenty of plants and plenty of hides, however you are getting fish that are not conditioned, not even close to ready.

You would be better off getting a nice male and a couple of small peaceful bottom dwellers like pygmy cory cats or the like. You want to watch what kind of plants you use if not using live as well. Stiff plastic plants can damage the bettas fins. I would go with the silk plants or live if you can.

Best to you on this.

I have a male and a female betta, the male lives on his own and the female is in a comunity tank (one day i may breed them). As others have said 'do not risk putting females with a male', most people just puit them together (1 male, 1 female) to bread. And please cycle your tank before even looking for a fish, if you put him in a uncycled tank you will end up with a dead betta.

Use real or silk plants, not plastic (as i found out last week, my poor betta shredded his fins) also its best to use a filter that runs from a air pump and the water flow from a normal filter can also shred their fins (unless you get one where you can control the water flow).

Betta's are fab, i love mine, he's so friendly xx

in a 5 gallon tank i plan to have 1 male betta and 2 female bettas-impossible, they'll kill each other. You can keep one male only
what is the least amount of stuff i need (foods already had)
like do i need a filter - absolutely, and you need to cycle your tank before adding any fish in it. Please read here how to fishless cycle a tank:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/113861-fishless-cycling/

heater-absolutely, betta fish are tropicals so unless you live in the tropics too, they need a heater to keep the temperature up.
plants live-the fish prefer live plants and the tank looks nicer with them but it's not a must.
alredy have rocks
also i have yet to set it up any tips i know about the cycle thing but dont know how to go about it like anyhing (meds)i need to put in or should i get a plant before or after i get the bettas- you don't need to buy any meds, only if your fish gets sick and if you cycle the tank first(4 to 8 weeks), your fish more than likely will not get sick and live a happy live. If you don't cycle, and you are impatient, then more than likely a lot of problems will happen. I've already posted a link on how to do a fishless cycle.
and how long do i need to let the water sit to cycle-as already suggested, water doesn't get cycled by sitting on its own. It needs an ammonia source to start the cycle. From there, anything up to 8 weeks to cycle, more likely less than that, until enough good bacteria is grown in the filter to keep the water tip top and non-toxic to fish.

please tell me everything and more dont want them to die
THANKS

Where did you get the rocks? How have you cleaned them?

Most people do not "put" them together, this will result in a fight. Put both betta NEAR each other so that they can watch each other over a few days, when putting the male and female into the tank, allow the male to get used to his new surroundings for atleast half an hour. I've read that using a "hurricane" globe is useful so that the male doesn't just go for her. Monitor them to see if they take an interest in eachother, then hopefully the male will start making a breeding test.
Betta's don't need an airpump since they get their air from the surface, so theres no real point in getting an air pump unless you decide to have other fish with your betta.
(Sorry if i'm sounding a bit mean.)
