Betta Housing

thats good for a betta compred to the temperatures I get in my house. Even if you think it's small, it's beter than those BTD (betta torture devices) or those small cups. You know, I had a friend who had a betta live in that cup that they come in for almost a year?!?! I was astonished when he told me and when I asked him why, he said that he thought he was getting a bargain: the betta and the "tank". So he changed the water everyday, not hard, and the betta lived there for 1 year untill he died.

You know.. I think that a 1-2 gallong tank would be just fine. I have all of my fish in about 1.25 gal (2.5 divided) and haven't had any problems. Then again, I have a very rigid cleaning and feeding schedule because I've figured out what does and doesn't work for keeping the water clean. All of my fish have remained responsive and happy.. so I think that if you do it right, a 1gal is fine.

ok thanks for bringing that up....I was thinking of putting my betta in a 1/2 gallon bowl...water changes would be every 2 days? Good or bad? Room temperature is relative moderate (68-71)

Bettas should be kept in 2 gallons and up. Bare minimum is 1 gallon but they won't be able to swim far without having to turn around. From my experience bettas that are allowed to swim a lot seem to be healthier. Bettas that are kept in small containers normally just sulk or swim very little.

1/2 gallon is def too small, 1 minimum. The smallest I have is 2.5g

I have had my Betta Boy in a 2 gallon round and deep fish bowl with a heater for a few months now--with a few artificial plants--one floating and a few pieces of gravel to keep the plants from floating away--and he's doing great! The heater really makes a difference--so I know I can keep a bit of stability with the temp! I had originally bought the tank as a hospital tank but ended up using it this way. I do water changes every week or so. Half and then complete within two weeks. Because it's small, I can change the water pretty quickly without my betta freaking out from having to be in temporary housing for the moment.

Happy new year!

I love my betta..Wendy

guys i know I just went behind all our your backs but i put the betta in the 1/2 gallon. He has a terrible rip in his caudal fin about 1inch long and a bit of fin rot. I'm treating the water with Jungle- Fungus Eliminator (which kills off the fin rot) and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt (which is supposely, and does, heal fins). Hopefully he won't have to b in the hospital tank for too long. And the tempratureis about 70 easy. :)

EDIT:Itried convincing my parents to let me get at least a 1g or 2g and they said no more tanks because they dont like them :( I told them the fish would die if we didn't get it (which is not true, hopefully) and they said I could get another one if it died   EVIL PARENTS

i talked my mom into letting me fill the pet keeper up instead of buying a tiny bowl. she wanted a very, very small one for him - as she said it was bigger than the ones they were kept in.
