well i have worked out how old my betta fry are and they are 85 days old
and this morning when i went to feed them i saw a bubble nest i was like  what the!!
and i found out who was doing it and it must be a male right?
so i have put him in his own little tank but at that age should they be makeing them so does this mean they are ready for breeding if they can?
i mean they are kinda small and still colouring up i wouldnt even dream of breeding them :p

i think most young males do this at that age, but i dont think they would eb ready to start breeding........ :D

so if i see anymore bubble nests i should wait to see who is doing them then put them in there own tanks yeah? then i know who is and is not a male.
i was hopeing to get more females than male but i think i only have 2 ladys lol.
but they are soooooooo pretty.
im a proud mother lmao

females can build nests also, although they dont do it nearly as much as the males do. I am no expert but they are almost 3 months old (give or take )and are probably equivielent to teenagers. The Male I just bred was 4 months old. Hope that helps.

mine are sorta old lol but not very big they are about hmmm......3-4 cm big lol
but some have long fins and others dont

Betta's from my experience can breed at 8 months old sucessfuly.
i have done this a few times from 8 months but i never breed brother and sister i only ever will breed with a new fish that isn't related (of sorts).
At what age they build a nest i have never found out because at about 2 months i filter the water which means that it's rare a nest can adhere.

I have to disagree with 5-8 months
that's like humans having babies at 13 years old(not being sordid)
5 months is way too young for them in my experience.
I have only ever bred at 8-12 months.
That said if you have done it then i may be wrong but i have never even cosidered the possibility of breeding them so young.
But if you have good luck to ya!

Breeding Bettas from 3.5 month on is very normal for Bettas and Betta Breeders. Some Bettas mature faster than others, so it's up to the breeder to recognize if a particular one should be held back a bit.

I just spawned a pair of siblings that were 3 months 1.5 weeks old and it was successful (although small). Both came through it unharmed and the father was a pretty good dad for a first timer.

I also have 2 very successful spawns that the parents were 5 months old at the time (the pair that just spawned were children from one of those 2 spawns).

Waiting until 8 months is completely unecessary IMO.

I agree, I dont understand the resoning to waiting to 8 months either. If a betta lives to 2-3 years average the you are waiting until the equivilent to a person in their 20's to 30s. I have found in reading other peoples research, that they become fully mature at around 3 to 4 months. (In betta years I guess they can vote then :p ) Depending on the fish they can start breeeding at around the 4 month mark. And inbreeding isnt that bad as long as you dont have 20 generations of it... :alien:
