Hi! I have a Betta fish in a tank with a few guppies and a few cories. The tank size is 10 gallons.

Well, he has a strange whitish patch on his side! D: It isn't fuzzy, or anything, and it's not a lump, either. It looks a bit like a bacterial infection, I think, but I'm not too sure. I haven't done a water change for some time (been busy! x3), and was in the process of doing one today, when I noticed him.

He's been hiding behind the heater or other things he can get behind, and he's very lethargic, depressed, refuses to move and eat.

Just yesterday, I think he was fine. However, I was extremely busy the entire day, and couldn't check.

I know a bit more about fish since I joined this spring, but not enough that I can help him myself. I haven't really done a water change lately, and I know that's stupid.... Oh, well. We're all human, and we make mistakes, right? Plus, I'm still learning! :3 But, ANYWAYS.... Whatever mess I've made out of my fish this time, I'm determined to get them out of! ;)

A few weeks ago, maybe a month (?), I got some miniature duckweeds from Big Al's. Since then, two guppies have also died, but I thought it was just natural causes. Then, a cory died. Now, my Betta fish is acting lethargic. Could the events be connected???

I have a tank I set up that I can use to isolate him, but it's 10 gallons, and won't be ready until tomorrow morning. Anything I can do until then, though? I'm currently in the process of a water change, so maybe that'll help! :3

Anyways, any other clue what could be wrong with him? :/

EDIT: And, no, I can't look at any fish disease indexes, because my stupid computer has stupid CA Parental Controls installed on it that stupidly installed themselves without my permission! D:< Oooh, I hate my Dad; he promised to get it off, but, nooooo! Okay, I'm done complaining, now! :3

To start off, sorry to hear about your fish, I to have had problems with my Betta the last couple of weeks but now hopefully he is on the mend. I am not a pro at this myself, I too am still learning. What I will say tho is, probably the best thing you can do is water changes, my problem doesn't sound the same as yous, but I was doing 50% water changes every second or third day. I did that for which is now coming to nearly 2 weeks I think and has done the world of good.

So that could get you started untill someone more in hte know comes along. What they will want to know is your water stats, size of tank, fish in the tank and what filer/media you use ect, and possibly photos if you can. That will greatly help any kind of diagnosis of your fish.

Goodluck!

Okay, thanks! :3

Well, the tank size is 10 gallons, there are... hmm. 3 guppies, I believe? Plus 2 guppy fry. Plus 4 cories. Plus the Betta. And the filter is good for up to 15 gallons.

just keep up n those waterchanges! hopefully will heal on its own if it were from poor water quality. if it gets worse after a week of keeping water clean clean clean, may be time to get some antibacterial meds.
cheers

Okay, thanks! ;)

I'm looking to change up the tank a little in the next week, anyways, so I think I will do some more waterchanges! ^.^; *grabs bucket!* :3

a lot of his problems are probably due to your cleaning habits - - you have another post asking advise about how to convince/remind yourself to clean the tank because you state you rarely do it until your tank is green - -

most fish are highly sensitive to their water conditions - - I think you will see his health improve as your self discipline regarding the cleaning of the tank improves.

a clean healthy environment is the number one factor in fish health
