I have several community bettas, two males and two females. Since they're kept with other fish, they're exposed to a more varied diet than they were when I kept them individually. Yes, I know a lot of people don't like the idea of community bettas at all, I've got alternate housing for all of mine and they've been kept like this, primarily with bottom feeders, for months now and have a close eye on them. They're much more active, colorful and very enthusiastic about eating. Previously, I could only get them to eat a few betta pellets and treat foods.

Since they've been moved to the tanks, they've all developed a taste for flake food (even catch my females gobbling down spiriulina flake  ) and they all go nuts over the sinking wafers that I keep for my loaches and corydoras. My females love zuchinni, which I really didn't expect... I was actually hoping they'd shy away from the veggies as they're getting a little bit tubby. They also get some freeze dried or frozen blood worms, brine shrimp and tubifex worms every so often as a treat, of course none of them will pass that stuff up.

So does anyone else have any bettas that like to eat odd things? What sort of diets do yours get? Just curious as I'm pretty convinced that mine are crazy.

mine hates pellet food. don't know why. he won't even put it in his mouth anymore. i felt kind of bad because i really close friend of mine bought me some betta food as a gift, but it was pellets and he totally snubbed the stuff.
he loves nutrafin betta flakes, but they have to be crumbled up or else he'll just spit them right back out. he also loves his bloodworms, although i've found that he'll even occasionally spit those out if they're too big for him. i kind of want to find some other sort of treat thing i could feed him. i've heard some people feed their bettas peas. :)

You should feed them peas once a week to help get their poop going heh.

My male used to have trouble eating pellets... don't think he was used to chewing something hard...
But now he just loves them.

Both of my bettas LOVE their Hikari Gold baby pellets. I also give them Freeze Dried Bloodworms and some pea once or twice a week.
They're little oinkers always begging for food.. specially my female.

I hope they arent all together  Blood worms, daphnia, pellets (attisons betta pro are fab) cooked deshelled peas, and a fast day once a week is what mine get

No worries, they're in three seperate tanks. Wouldn't dream of sticking two males together or males with femles.

my bettas living a lone, or with out other mid-top dwelling fish (shrimp, frogs, cories etc) get fed betta pellets, tetra prima, bloodworms and brineshrimp.
the ones in my communities get betta pellets, prima, bloodworms, brineshrimp, flakes, and what ever else i feed my other fish.

Mine has a penchant for little bits of orange...and small pieces of Boar's Head turkey. I am almost sure that as long as it is a light meat, he would eat it. I'm not sure if his digestive system could handle heavier, red meats and I'm not about to try. Those are odd things, of course. He rarely ever gets these treats and I usually feed him freeze-dried blood worms.

Most of mine get fed Omego Betta Flakes and the others (dash, tyson, gus, and cielo) get fed Hikari Betta bites

Steve hates spiralina flakes. In fact he only likes the red flakes in his flake food and hates any change in the recipe. But he loves peas.

All our fish hate mosquito larvae. And Steve is funny about bloodworm and gets scared by live food.

Khan will only eat hikari pellets and daphnia.

Our lady bettas like catfish pellets. In fact they'll eat whatever is meant for anyone else but them in the tank. Poor corys get chased off by them so the ladies can eat all of their pellets.

beta pellets, reg tropical flakes (also for my other fishies), frozen mix (blood worms, brine shrimp, etc), and freeze dried blood worms. I usually do flakes daily (not too much), blood worms every other day, and the frozen mix once a week (it's a ton and takes them awhile to ravenously tear it apart) hehe :good:

I regularly feed my betta 'Betta Bites' he gobbles them right up. I've tried the flake food but he only spits it out. I tried freeze dried bloodworms, but he spat that out too. I did cut up a live earthworm the other day and feed that too him. He went WILD :hyper: ! You would have thought you were watching a pirahna! I won't feed him earthworms often though, as I'm afraid of bacteria. I plan to try some frozen food and hopefully some spinach or zuchinni. I'd like to start giving him a variety as I'm sure he gets tired of the Betta Bites every day.

:fish:

Mine get flakes, bloodworms, betta bites and brine shrimp. I choose a different type to feed each day then switch it up the next day. He likes the betta bites the best (I usually give him a few everyday along with the other food) the other fish try to eat them also :p. They all seem to like everything.

shadow and pacific must be the weird ones of the bunch. they won't touch anything except pellets - not even freeze dried bloodworms  . aladdin will eat the bloodworms, but not alot.

my females are in a small community so they get pellets, flakes or bloodworms...whatever they get their little mouths on. i'm gonna move the other fish out though (minus the cories) and once that happens, all of them will be on a more "organized" diet.

Drew likes bloodworm and brine shrimp but not daphnia. I always get given a look of complete disgust by him, whenever I put them in the tank.
