Well, I posted about a week ago about my betta just lying on the floor of his tank.

Now, he's just lying there but on his side. He hasn't eaten in a week and he's super skinny.

I'm unsure if he's saveable at this point. IF he's not saveable I don't want to just let him sit in this tank and suffer.

His fins are all very flat and look shriveled. His color looks washed out as well. I did check his water and it feels warm like room temp (probably low 70s).

Any assistance would be appreciated to help 'ole Ace (the fish) out. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear he's under the weather :/ Maybe a large, gentle water change will perk him up?
What have you offered him to eat? Perhaps he'll take some bloodworms

Change water once a week . That will keep him alive.
um...well...yes but it wont keep him from dying. put him in some bettamax-bettamax cures just about all betta woes. (this is not to be confused with the bottle of poopoo known as bettafix)
then again-it could just be his time. how long have you had him?
you could also try to soak his food in garlic extract and leave it right by his mouth. garlic makes the pickiest fish eat. not sure why thiugh.

In the small tanks that bettas are usually kept in, water changes should be performed twice a week. One water change a week allows ammonia to build up to a harmful level.

Since your betta is not doing very well, I'm going to stress the importance of clean water. I'd suggest doing water changes every other day until he perks up. Also, if you have any aquarium salt or Melafix you could add, that wouldn't hurt.

As wuv suggested, bloodworms usually make the most finicky bettas eat. Any live or frozen foods are usually readily accepted.

Wish you the best of luck

Well, sadly I report that Ace passed while we were at church tonight. My daughter is pretty upset (she got him March 2003 as a birthday present) and my wife is fairly distraught as well.

We're not sure if we should go with a betta again or maybe a more durable species... just not sure right now.

Sorry to hear that,Shawn. It seems as though he was truly cared for and that's more than any betta can ask for. Best wishes to your family.

I'm sorry about your loss.

But as for the durability of Betta, they ARE one of the most durable fish you will find, unfortunately. Perhaps you need to get a small tank with a filter/heater so you can do more regulations on it.

Any other breed of fish for the most part -requires- a heater, -requires- a filter, -requires- constant diligence in keeping track of nitrite, phosphorous, etc levels.

I'm not trying to make small of your grief at the loss of your fish, but going with an "easier" fish probably isn't a solution -- there aren't many more "easier" fish out there to take care of.

My only suggestion would be to find out why he died, read up on how to prevent it, and try again. Without knowing exact temperatures, it could be anything from him freezing to death, having velvet, or some sort of fungus, etc. Hard to say. And who knows -- he could have passed on from old age. It depends on how old he was when you got him.

Once again, I'm sorry for your loss :byebye: I hope that you do give Bettas another try. They are really fantastic creatures.

Becca

poor lil guy :-( sorry to hear about your loss..

but yes, i agree that bettas are definately durable. they're hardy little guys, and i'd give them a second chance.

i would have to agree with you eja0913 and BeccaBlain because i had two bettas (one female one male) in a community tank with a catfish 5 guppies and two fish (unknown) and my mum changed the she poored unchlorinated <a in :/ and all that survived from this was my two bettas!
so if your looking for a better fish i think you should just look for a better betta breeder and make sure you have the tank in TOP condition the hardness needs to be atleast 150 and the ph around 7.5. and it would be a good idea to get a bigger tank so changes are not needed as much. as for the <a changes if the fish looks less active than normal or isnt blowing any bubbles this is a sign that you may need a qchange! or his depressed if he is depressed get a mirror for him to look at soo he thinks there is another bettai hope you go well next with what ever the fish u choose but i highly recommend that u stick with bettas :)

Sorry for your loss.
Considerin bettas live about 2 years and they are about 1 year old when you buy them it is possible Ace died of old age.

no bettas live 3 yrs and can live longer if u take really good care of them
