Betta Cottage

Very much looking forward to your progress! So exciting :D

Got the stand. I've got overhang on either side, but I still think it should be okay? I'm about to level off the stand at the bottom, and then I'm going to see if the tank holds water.

Have the same stand as you :D Its sturdy to say the least. Im thinking of finding some kind of fabric to overlay the stand so i dont have to look at the tubing and power cords.

That's a good idea. Wouldn't cost much money at all, either. Just some fabric, some of those stock on Velcro strips and you'd be solid.

Yep that is how mine overhangs so you will be fine.  Everything is coming together nicely now.  :)

Indeed it is. However, I'm afraid I've reached the boring part of this journal as there will be nothing new to report until the cycle is completed. I'm not even adding my substrate until the last big water change.

Have you some mature media to speed the process from your other tank? Or is this going to be your only tank now? Sorry, I'm sure you may have already said

I'm going to take a small amount of sponge from my ten gallon, but I'm also going to try Dr. Tim's One and Only. I'll be documenting the process here when that stuff arrives.

It's been a while without an update, but last night I ordered dr Tim's nitrifying bacteria and the ammonium chloride solution. Accidentally ordered three bottles of the bacteria and one of the ammonia, but I'm going to call today and see if they can't make that two of each. I didn't have my glasses on when I did it. :\ Either way, I'm hoping it comes sometime next week so I can start cycling my tank and my friend's tank (which is why I need two bottles of each).

On another note, I haven't been able to catch my breeder yet. I'm going to email her again right now and see if I can't get her.

I'm hoping I'm getting a picture of the girls tonight. The breeder said she would try. In the meantime, might drive down to pick up some plants and new substrate.

New driftwood today! I got two pieces. The first is called "forest branch" from somewhere in South Africa, and the other is a gorgeous piece of Malaysian driftwood.

Here's the South African piece:

Thanks, guys! I wish I could put it in the tank now, but I've got to finish cycling first. I don't want the tannins to cycle out. I'll be sure to put up pics when I get them in.

Next, I have to cycle the tank, get my plant substrate and plants, and put in my fish!

Dr. Tim's Aquatics has adjusted my order, which has shipped, so it looks like I'll be getting it in a few days!
