Rabid Betta Activist
If bettas were any other fish, they'd be kept in at least a 2.5 by the inch per gallon rule. They can survive with very little water, but not with a decent quality of life. Yea, if your house is warm enough, they'll live a good long time, but what for? They would hardly have room to turn around, they have nothing to hide in, nothing to swim around, not even a mild current to work their muscles. I always go for a 2.5 for smaller bettas who need a lot of water changes due to poor health, and at least 5 for a healthy, active, full grown male. That way, you can have plenty of plant cover to keep them active, enriched, and low-stress with plenty of swimming room at the same time. I wish I could go bigger, but I have so many darn birds that I don't have room for nine 10 gallons ::laughs:: ![thumbs  ](/images/smilies/ipb/thumbs-up.gif)
