Thought you might like to see the results of my tinkering. I had to do one of Blaze because he was the template.
Here's Blaze in pixel form...
And I just had to experiment a little bit with colors.
It's not perfect, but it was fun.

Sure! Lovely bettas in the pics, too. Ooh, you have a spade tail? They're soo pretty! 
They ARE getting popular! Oooh. I can't wait to get my hands on Hawaii! He is (was?) gorgeous!Exactly? Well... that's quite the loaded question.
I use adobe to make them, and start with a small size, zoom up as close as I can go and draw them pixel by pixel. It's a time consuming task, but when it works, it's worth it. It's a combination of knowing how to do it technically, a bit of creativity and a lot of luck. If you want to learn, I would highly suggest doing a google search for "pixel art tutorial". That's how I first leaned. There are some amazing pixel artists on the web. Thanks, he was.
He was my little friend for about 3 years (and must have been at least a year when I got him), and passed away recently.
