First off, I have been following this forum for awhile now but just recently registered and this is my first post, so hello fellow fish lovers B) . In my 46 gallon tank I currently have the following:

1 Dwarf Gourami
2 Paradise Fish
2 Tiger Barbs
2 Iridescent Sharks
1 Pleco
1 Syno
2 Otos
1 Red tail shark

I would like to add some more vivid colors to my tank and was looking to possibly add a betta. Now my Dwarf Gourami, 1 of the Paradise Fish, and 1 Tiger Barb are very active/terretorial and like to chase each other (specifically around feeding time). There doesn't seem to be much, or any, nipping going on but I am concerned that if I get a slower moving fish with long, wavy fins there may be a problem (either the betta or the others will turn overly aggressive). What would you guys suggest and what are your experiences with this type of combination? Thanks!

Iam pretty sure that the Paradise fish will fight with the betta, they look to much alike to be kept in the same tank. And the tiger barbs might also start niping the bettas fins.

My bettas in with some tiger barbs and they have no problem w/ him. Actually it works really well, the barbs are intimidated by the betta and the betta wants to nip them, but they're faster... it's only when they play though. Other times they swim side by side and have no qualms. It's actually all quite comical! I also believe it might be their temperament also. The barbs are docile in the betta tank, but not in my other tank...

i wouldnt put them in there. did you know that the id sharks get like really big, i think like 3 or 4 feet?

yea, I won't even try it then...didn't think about how similar the paradise fish and bettas are. As for the sharks, I was definitly aware of that but unfortunately my roommate feels that this is his tank too for some reason........... It's tough having to pull tiny neon's off of my filter and net out fish that weren't acclimated properly :/
