iv got a gorges male betta hes almost pure red but has little whit tips to his fins. the thing is im confused becus i carnt tell if hes a crown tale or just the norm. or maybe a half breed. any way do you think its worth time trying to breed from him?? ill try to get a pik up asap

sure...

who cares if hes not a $100 aquabid one..

some ppl complain when people breed not perfect bettas

i think those ppl are stupid :D

if you get a pic im sure it would be easier for someone to tell what type it is.

If that is the normal way that his fins are ex. no rot, or fighting scars, it is very interesting. Seems to be a cross between the 2 at the least. I would try and breed to another one like that or a ct and see what you get. I agree with thellama make sure they are of good age.

thanks for the advice. ill have to keep an eye out to see if i can find any femails simaler to him. is the much defarence from a ct femail to a normal one in looks? i found him in my lfs for £2.95 and there was no more like him : ) cheres alastair

breeding bettas is fun and i would do it for the hell of it if i were u

fry do not need to be separated for months. although if you have room it certainly helps, but make sure everything is right for a few weeks before EG all the tanks have cycled and all the water is conditioned and to the right temperature excetera.

to breed betta (splenden) you need an average sised tank like you have
plenty of 'plantage' a mop made from wool tied around a win cork (it simulated reeds which the female will hide in after mating) and perhaps a very slow air powered filter (i mean 10 bubbles a minute) but i would just go for regular water changes. you also need a way of introducing the female into the tank (i would use a glass of a 'hurricane lamp')
put the male in the tank first then put some form of bottomless glass container into the water so there is no gaps into the rest of the tank. then introduce the female into this small section that you have made with the hurricane lamp glass.
the male should start to react and will build a bubble nest. the female , if ready , will start to 'band' meaning she will get stripes . only when these two things have occoured and the nest is completed should you let the female out .
the male will then chase her and then wrap around her and squeese out some eggs seh will float to the top and he will come and get the eggs from the bottom she will then come and try to help. they will spit the eggs into the bubbles once mating has finished you will probably find the female in the mop hiding you should now remove her . it is now super important that you put a lid on the tank to build up humidity. because as the fry hatch they can only swim vertically and if they come up and brathe cold dry air they can die instantly. fry do not need to be separated for a long time in the correct sized tank BUT BE WARENED IF YOU TAKE A FISH OUT FROM ITS SIBLINGS YOU CANNOT PUT IT BACK IN NO MATTER HOW SHORT OF A TIME THIS IS FOR. ps i wouldtake the farther out when the fry are all swimming horisontaly plus a couple extra days coz he can get nasty sometimes.

i have studied and lectured on the fish for many years and i hope you enjoy breeding as much as i did.

he's definitely not a crowntail, either a combtail (which is a cross between a crowntail and a non-crowntail type) or a beat up veiltail or delta. looks like he might have some finrot, so my bet would be on the latter. i would treat with melafix and aquarium salt and daily water changes for a bit and see if he improves.

also if you want to breed them then do it, but don't rush into it. its not easy, even if you do everything right you could end up with the male killing the female or vice versa! you need to have really small live food for when the babies first start free swimming (microworms, waterworms, vinegar eels etc) and a brine shrimp hatchery about a week later. read up on it well and make sure you have everything you need before you start, oh and make sure you have enough people/shops willing to take/buy the fish once they are old enough

oops sorry old post

Its an old post Ibble. There were two others revived last night

yeah, after i replied i read the next one up and saw you saying to danyol12 to stop bringing up old posts and that the other one s/he had replied to was also an old one and realized you meant this one.
its that stupid similar topics thing that causes it
