Hi,
I'm new to the forum, I recently got a male beta which I had in a 2 gallon tank for about a week, however the tank was just too hard to clean, so I purchased a 5 gallon tank with a heater and filter. I just transferred him over there this morning. I'm a little concerned because I've always heard that beta's prefer still water and this filter does make a ripple effect across the top of the water right where the filter is. Will he be happy in this bigger tank even though the water is not still? Or would you recommend taking the filter out of the tank. I've read that other people keep their male betas in tanks with filters. He's only been in there about 6 hours but it seems like the current through the water is pushing him. I'm not sure what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Does your filter allow you t direct the current a differnt way or turn it down. Mine does. Also look up in the new saection about cycling your filter.

+1 to cycling! links provided here.

Also, there are ways to 'baffle' a filter. Essentially this disperses the water more slowly out the sides rather than the rapid waterfall (assuming you have a hang-on-back filter), thus decreasing the current in the tank. To learn more about baffling see this link, or do a google search of how to baffle a filter, or something along those lines.

My filter doesn't have anything on it for me to turn it down..I will check out the section about cycling your filter. Thank you so much

Thank you so much for the information on baffling your filter, I will give this a try
