Beta Crisis

Hi everyone ,


I have a beautiful Blue beta Normally fit and healthy , hes in a 200lt Tank with 3 females , neon teras , danios, gouramis, and brislte nose catfish loads of real plants big filter and airation . All my other fish are fine but He has became listless and his eyes have popped put . I looked this up in my book and it suggested that he had an internal bacterical infection.

I have treated him twice now and nothing has happening he looks worse than ever I really dont want him to dye .

Any Ideas

1st problem:

Males and females should not be kept in the same tank, no ifs, no buts, just plain and simple no

Seperate them immediately

2nd problem:

the females, once uve seperated the male from the females, u will now have an issue with housing the females, they shud be kept in groups of 4 or more to spread the bullying out, keeping 3 will most likely end up in 2 picking on 1

Sounds to me that he has pop-eye and for this I would use myaxin

I found this to be very effective when i had a betta with popeye

I havent heard of the medication you are talking about ? where would I get it ?

I read in a book that pop eye is caused by and internal baterical infection for its the anti internation baterical infection medicine I have been using.


I appreciate the coments about the housing of my fish but my females swim around together and never fight and when we first enter them in the male was displaying a wee bit but now they rub up against each other . Now that the male is sick the females seem to stand gaurd over him. I have had them all for over a year and there has never been a problem .

yeah they seem fine for now, wont be long before u have dead fish

Clearly im not lying and telling u this info from past experiences, and any other betta keeper will tell u the same

If you care about ur fish at all, then you will seperate them immediately

Medication wise I just gave u a suggestion

Myaxin by waterlife, or anti internal bacteria by interpet

You can buy it online or in any half decent fish shop

Also can you please post ur water stats

Temp?
Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?

Will separating Betta in the same tank work, or do they need to be in two separate tanks?

yes it would, but u would need a divider

and a way of heating and filtering both sides of the tank

However, even if they are split 1male on one side, 3 females on the other, the 3 females WILL bicker, and end up bullying one, which will end in death, then the remaining 2 females will fight and kill each other
