i switched from freshwater to marine a few weeks ago. so far i've 2 clownfish and 8 mollies (from freshwater stock to mature tank), i'd love to get some invertibrates. which would be hardy enough to live in my tank as it is not very mature and i'm only learning? i've plans to eventually have a reef setup so any additions would have to be completely reef safe. any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. lol :D

Wot size tank we talking about mate

IMO you are way overstocked for that size of Tank & have stocked far to quickly

What are you tank readings

havent actually checked yet but fish seem happy and the guy at the shop who has 20 odd years experience said it'd be ok. that's the max number of fish i'll have when i introduce the next fish i'm taking the mollies out.

Another newbie that takes there LFS's word as gospil :shout:

You are overstocked & have stock way too fast

& the fact you dont bother with tests is just pure irresponsible IMO

Did you bother doing any reasearch

quite a lot actually. i got the test kit on ebay but the person didnt send the instructions. its a master api kit. i check salinity, lol. its not a chain of shops, its just a guy who has kept them for years and set up a shop. we dont have many shops in northern ireland for marine fish.do you know how to use them test kits?

i just assumed since the media had been in my freshwater setup it would mature quickly and be ok for fish. i left it 4 weeks with nothing but the mollies

i just assumed

IMO using an External filter on a marine as the sole Bio-Filter is just a recipe for problems, Liverock offers much more than Externals & LR is available in Irland

The bacteria that built up from your Freshwater tanks Filter will have died off, when introduced to a saltwater enviroment, so in esscence you have no/or little Bio-Filter

If you dont have the test kit instruction then search the internet for them or Buy more kits - How do you know you tank parameters without them

IMO you need to reavaluate your tank, you have made a load of mistakes that will IMO eventually result in the deaths of your livestock

I assume that the reason your livestock have not keeled over yet is teh fact that they are hardy species but you need to get some test ASAP & check your reading

Sorry if I am coming across as being a muppet but I see the possibility of your livestock suffering & dying through a lack of reasearch & that p***s me off

A couple of months of solid reasearch wont kill anyone but a lack of it will kill livestock
