im looking to change a few of my discus and add a couple more to my tank but im unsure of what sex ratio is the best for a more peacefull tank.... i currently have 4 discus two of which are albinos and this is what i want all of them to be so i need to swap/replace/sell the other two. the 2 albinos are similar size and were sold to me as one of each sex but not a pair and the female seems quite aggressive towards the male but doesnt bother the smaller two non albinos.
are female discus more aggressive than males? or do i have a bully.....? should i get more females or males....?

i just thought that it was to hard to sex them so people just got what they were given, i look forward to seeing sum replies though as i am soon to be purshasing a group of 7-9. what else u keeping them with matt?

i have a different topic about sexing them and although its not 100% until they spawn etc its as good as you can get.

at the minute they are in a planted tank at 30C with polkadot loaches, SAE's, spotted climbing perch and 2 platys. all seems well at the minute except the one discus being bullied a bit.....

generally you can add 1 male for 2 female discus....and at the same time you should keep at least 6 adult discus fish so that they can form a school...

thanks :good: this is what i was aiming for a nice group of 6. ill try and get a couple more females if possible.

did you order your discus from midland discus matt? what was the quality and service like?
i rang simon at midland discus and went to collect the fish, they were really good quality and very well priced too. i got an albino 5 inch pigeonblood for £59, an albino turk 4.5 inch for £50 and the 4 inch penang for £30. i did get them while he had a sale on in january though so prices may be slightly higher now but still a very good deal and simon is a very down to earth chap. i also got a huge bar of bloodworms for £6. he has some very nice discus and i was tempted with a lovely red panda he had but it was reserved for someone.....
he is very comited to the discus and has been delivering the fish himself all over the country and even up to scotland! all my fish are very healthy and ive had no problems with them at all so would highly recommend midland discus :good:

go ahead with discus fish.if you have any problem we are always with you...
do you want to keep only discus fish in your tank?or with some compatible fish?

i have them in with 3 polkadot loaches, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 leopard bushfish and 2 platys at the minute. i will rehome the platys as i think its too hot for them but everything else seems to be ok so far, the loaches are very greedy and active but i drop a tablet in for them so they dont bother the discus when feeding them. the SAE's are also very active and chase each other all day but are no bother to the discus or any other fish.
i am getting another tank soon so will be moving the bushfish and possibly the SAE's so with the platys moved as well that will just leave the loaches and the discus so i may add a nice group of cardinals or similar tetras

leopard bushfish and platy are not the compatible fish with discus fish...tetras are the best compatible fish with discus..
