Best excuse for a new fish

Fishy411 you rebel, luckly my tank is subject to me an me alone. Only occasionally getting a glance from mom or lil bro...

mom* whats those ones there?
me* or just babes that have grown up (platy's changing into pair of salvini's, he hee)

don't worry took the platy's out now in a friends tank!

When I used to have my fish tanks in the house, it was sometimes tough to "sneak" a new fish in without the wife giving me "the look" .

Then I got my fish room! Looking at this from my perspective, I thought this would be a nice relaxing place for the family to come, away from TVs and telephones, where they could just sit and chill out watching the fish. Reality is, though, that I am the only one who ever goes out there most of the time. So sneaking a fish or even a new tank setup is not much of a problem.

Not long ago, one of my boys came out and was checking out some of my new fish finds and was very impressed with a couple of them. That night, at supper, he commented to my wife about the new fish that he had seen and how cool he thought it was.
"When did you get the new fish?"she asked me.
"4 or 5 months ago" I answered, stretching the truth a little.
"I didn't know you bought any new fish" she said.
"Dear, I could have a Rottweiler out there and you would never know about it" I answered.
We still occasionally discuss Rottweilers.

Tell your parents that not having a new tank or new fish will leave you with more time and money to do crack.

Used to work for me ;)

My other idea is find a study published in a medical journal that suggests that watching fish is relaxing and lowers blood pressure. Then start crying and say "You don't want me to die....do you?" :-( :-(

I don't have to worry too much now with my husband, but when it's something expensive I use other methods of persuasion :shifty:

My parents have come to accept that I'm a maniac and don't ask questions anymore. The problems will come when I move out... I want to take all the fish with me, but if I can't, mom will be PISSED about having to take care of my tanks :X
I'm actually attending one more year than I'd like at my local college just so I'll be able to live off-campus when I transfer... so I can take my cat and my big tanks with me!

Yea...I also use other ways of persuasion with my boyfriend. :hey: ;)

My boyfriend likes my tank though and is excited to see fish in it once it is cycled.

I like the "more money and time to do crack" excuse. It had me laughing.

My parents do like my tanks because they said it is relaxing. Once we get a big screen TV in the living room and a new couch my mom wants to put a big tank in the living room.

me: u bought nicky (big sista) a puppy (now huge-just think mid thigh) and she does not poop it ,walk it ,feed it or anything thing...but i cant have one little fish that does not poop on the floor , but does eats out of a tin and stays in one room????
mum: u are good at looking after ur fish, plus u pay for everything, and u never ask me to feed ur horse....go get the fish

me: happy smile (thinks about new tank new fish has to go in)
mum: walks away to find nicky and yell at her for beeing lazy

dad is not building me stands:)

only problem is if i ever move in with my bf...9 foot,7foot,5foot,4foot,2x3foot,2foot,5x1foot tanks..lots of water just think of the power bill........

My excuse normally is:

Well, we've got a new tank, what shall we put in it...

And to get the new tank:

Well, I'm sure there's space over there for a tank...

It always helps when the finace's into the fish as much as me :D

i used to use the "look what ive been given" excuse, but doesnt work any more after my father who was baby sitting some angels for me in his spare tanks .. said to the wife your fish are doing well .. luckily she likes them and ive just been given permission to buy another tank ..

she gets the idea that this is a very cheap hobby and fish only cost pennies .. so if anyone does know her keep quiet . lol

1)these fish are schooling fish and need to be with others, look how lonley he is
2)ill do the dishes
once i overstocked my tanl purposley and showed my parents so they MADE me get a new tank :D
