So I was thinking what other people use as an excuse to buy a new fish, since most of our family/significant others think we are TOTALLY obsessed and think we don't need anymore fish.

So what are your excuses? Tell me stories! :p

I don't need excuses... I just sneak them in when no one else is home :shifty:
My parents have yet to notice the new 5 gallon I've had for about a week... they have seen it, surely, but not noticed it. I'm to the point where I've got so many tanks and bowls that no one ever notices "just one more"

Well my mom and dad let me have as many tanks and fish as I want as long as they don't poop on the floor and go to the vet. And I just give my boyfriend the "puppy dog eyes" and tell him how much the fish reminded me of him and how cute it was. :p

Don't need excuses. If I want fish, I go get them. My parents don't care what I do as long as it's not them looking after the fish :p
My mom has her own tank (that I look after, she only feeds them, but she should be looking after her own tank and fish :grr:) so she definately doesn't care if I get more. If I get new ones I'll show my dad and he'll say "Oh, He's pretty" My brother on the other hand......well he doesn't like the fact that I have so many fish and tanks. He's always asking me why I have so many, and if I buy another one he'll say... "You got another fish????" But I just tell him to mind his own business :)

Same as Whiskerz pretty much.

I knw all about the fis in my family. So im the only one who knows what should go where! And how to look after them. I drag mum to the lfs sumtimes but i preffer to go myself.

When I first got into fish and started going on this forum my little sister would always be like, "You're going on that stupid fish site again? You're obsessed" Now she is asking me to cycle her tank and get her ready for some dwarf puffers. :p

Either sneak it in, or go 'But it makes me happy, why can't you understand that?' and just.. be upset.
 I got my first 10 gallon for christmas and I had to sneak it in because my dad said NO MORE PETS so I was scared he would make me take it back. He actually really liked it. Then I moved to a 29 gallon and now I have a 120 gallon. Next is trying to convince the parents to turn the pool into an outside pond. They are re-modeling our pool since our whole pool area got destroyed by the hurricanes awhile back.

I may not get to put live fish in there but my mom and I picked out some really cute tile fish and some seaweed to go in the bottom of the pool as a nice decoration. My favorite one is the red, yellow, and blue one. He looks like a type of cichlid.

Hey! He can be my oscar I won't be getting. :p

I'm sneaking a ten gallon in, with the excuse of borrowing it from a friend to breed bettas, and then they never wanted it back. And then I can divide it and put a bunch of bettas from the spawn. No complaints if they think it was free! :hyper:

Mmm.. pool-sized pond..

My excuses for getting new fish:

a. "I was so depressed that I went to the fish store and bought this pathetic-looking, malnurished, sick little betta. If I hadn't bought him, he would have died a horrific, painful, gruesome death." --> That one worked reeeeeally well. :p

b. "My favorite female guppy just died and her boyfriend is sooooo depressed without her... oh well. I need to get another female guppy to keep him company." --> That one worked well too, but I got some funny looks.

c. (Conversation between mom and I)

Mom: "What are those new little fish in your ten gallon? I told you no more fish!"
Me: "Well, I wasn't planning on getting any, but they were in with a bunch of adult fish and if I didn't take them, the other fish would have eaten them, or they would have starved to death. Plus, the owner gave them to me for free."
Mom: *Irritated, you are too smart for your own good look*
Me: *Cheesy, I'm an angel child look*

d. Nothing... at this point I have so many fish in the 10g that no one ever notices when more magically *appear* in the tank. Hehehe... :shifty:  :D

a) they're to eat the algae!
B) but they're preeeety!
c) I was in the fish shop and I wasn't going to buy anything but then there was this beautiful plec and she's been in there for a long time and SHE WAS LOOKING AT ME like she wanted a home... and that's why I spent so much money on only one fish.
d) that fish keeps the other fish company!

Just keep a quiet log of all the missus buys thats totally just for her... like skirts, underwear, those chocolates or books on low carb meals etc.

then just remind her of them, after you have come back fromt he fish shop

Always works, they always spend more than us, but in smaller quanitites so you forget or lose track, only worrying when you have no money at the end of the month!!
