Which book do you guys think is the best FW Aquarium fish species index/encyclopedia??? I am going to get one but i dont no which 1. Suugestions??

The internet :p

honestly i don't know
when i see aquarium books, they're so expensive i just nevermind them.
Plus, the information is always updated as new species are discovered every day and books are only updated once every few years, whereas the internet is updated all the time :)

I just find it easier...

I look in all the books when I go to my LFS, but never buy. If I see something new, I look it up in 3 or 4 books to get the average information, then go home, and see what I get from the net and people here.

YEa but i want a book because the net doesnt hav everything. Can anyone giv me a suggestion rather than an opinion if thye like books or not???

This probally isn't what your intrested in but theres alot in the libary butmost fish index books ivv'e seen tend to have a picture and name only, plus books seem to be wrong as often as the internet jsut cause it's published doesn't mean it's anything legit this hobby seems very controversial i got a magazine for easter that suggested a 40 gallon tank for an oscar

are you kidding me!!! i think im going to use that one in my sig...

OK back to the topic @ hand................. i my self prefer to read off of paper it just seems more rich than reading off the net. and people are right a book would have to be re-published every 2 days just to keep up with all the changes that take place in the hobby ....but most of the info that is changig has to do with clasifacations and genus ,which is a little more than the average fish keeper wants to know. if you are just looking for pics and a general overview of different fish
ie: tempermant, feeding, and the like there are plenty of books out there.

Her you go:atlas

Beansch Aquarium atlas 1-5 are great + photo index.

If you want to trust some book, those are the besh choise. Thought you need to have them all to trust fully because corrections to former books are in newer ones.

Go with the Baensch atlas's they are the best to date as has already been said, If you are looking books purely for identification purposes, the the Aqualog series are invaluable, (but expensive). I do not like the TFH publications as I find that most of them are full of mediocre glossy pictures with not much substance but there are a few exceptions.
Hope this helps...

I go to the local bok stores and buy any second hand books. Even eally old ones, they are fasinating to read, but non i would really consider "great etc etc" to use though.

Check out fares and book sales, there are a few around, bargains too@!

Baensch Atlases, i recently bought the first 3 in the set (only 1's in english) and there great, much better than searching through hundreds of sites.

the only bad thing about them is you sometimes end up looking through all 3 books to find what your looking for.

it's a shame they don't do a seperate index for them which refers you to the right book and page!!

With the axelrod (sp) atlas there seems to be mistakes, when looking through Planet Catfish there all mentioning the book as it has pictures of the wrong fish in worng places.
