Been To Lfs And Shocked At Sight!

That's the decision I've come to although I feel awful about the fish :(

Let's be fair about this. No lfs intends to keep fish in stock for a long time and to abuse them while they are there. It's in their best interests to have healthy fish and a rapid turnover in stock since this is how they make their living. The customer has a great advantage in being able to select the best of the lot, but an lfs has to take fish as they come. Sometimes, due to the length of time it takes for them to be transfered from one place to the next, and all the different conditions they encounter in the process, the fish will arrive in poor shape or even worse. Sometimes, especially if this is the only opportunity you might have to buy certain species of fish, they are worth taking a risk for.

You are always taking a chance when you buy fish from an lfs, because symptoms of disease don't always show at the time of purchase. That's why it's always advisable to quarantine them yourself before adding them to an established community.

Unfortunately, all the crying in the world won't change this situation. :/

Agreed there - There have been many fish thus far I've been tempted to do a Florence Nightingale act on, and buy them to nurse them back to health; however, this would never be practical, and you have to presume that the LFS have at least somewhat of an idea of how to ensure their fish are well treated.
