As the title says i saw a sealed bag about 20k of "live sand" it contained salt water and sand(obviously  ) i was just wondering if this stuff is really any good.

Thanks

Mick

IT was £20

The live sand is a good item to add. You do only need one bag thought to help "seed" the rest of your substrate. This along with a couple of really nice healthy pieces of live rock out of a well established tank will do wonders.

personally I wouldn't go for it. I think I know which you mean. you'd be better off getting a critter kit or getting some or someone elses sand and just adding that. the stuff in the bad claims to cycle the tank faster and also, could be sat there for months in the cold and its an awfull lot of money for some bacteria.

ste :)

I disagree... the bags of sand are live with the bacteria you need. But no critters. Use some of the sand to seed your substrate. You don't need ALL of it to be those live sand bags. Then either buy a detritivore kit (many available for less $$ than Inland, by the way), or better yet get a few locals to each donate a cup from their tanks. A couple pieces of very live rock from established tanks is good too (not from stores).

i bought 25lbs of live sand for 30 dollars it was pre-packaged from fiji and had a shelf life of 3 months in the bag i mixed it with fiji live rock from a trusted pet shop owner where i live and so far my tank is pretty good..i dont have the name of it i threw the bag out but its in aquarium magazine
