I setup and hatched some BBS preparing for my angelfish eggs (then fry). I wanted to make sure I knew what im doing, so I dont end up with no BBS and have starving fry. Anyways, I did as amny of you suggest, and I notice when I get the BBS out of my hatchery, I get alot of eggs. I know this isnt good for them to eat. Am i too concerned, or is there something I should do to prevent this. I let the hatchery sit unbubbled for 10min before syphoning out from the middle while holding a light up to the side of my bottle/hatchery gizmo. Am I concerned over nothing? Will these eggs cuase issues. It seems like there are about as many eggs as shrimp.

Also, I had no fry to feed, so I put my BBS in my big tank and nothing noticed them. Most went for the slightly larger eggs! Will these lead to issues?

Thanks

I think if you shine a light into the top/corner the bbs will be attratced to it, then just fish out what you need while the shells are still at the botom :)

I try, but no matter how long a wait for things to settle, as soon as I start siphoning, I get eggs wondering on over to my tube.

They can cause troubles in small fish by blocking guts etc. If your fish are adult then i wouldnt worry unless they're as small as male endlers for example.

I have been buying "decapsulated" brine shrimp eggs. You can also make these yourself but Its a bit of a long process. These dont have a hard outer shell so can be eaten without any worries. The process improves teh hatching rate too.

I don't know what sort of hatcher you have, but if you stop the air flow and let the fluid settle the eggs should go to the top of the container and the live bbs should go to the bottom, then you syphon the bbs off and putit through a strainer like these ZM

Then I rinse the shrimp in fresh water and empty the contents into another container and top it up with fresh water (I use a small jar or some such, once again I let the bbs settle and use a pippette like these to syphon off the live food in small amounts to feed the fry.

You have to be careful you don't overfeed the fish cause then the bbs just drop to the bottom of the tank and die and then pollute the water.

Using a pipette measures out your feed so you don't end up putting too much in, also you are taking the live bbs from the bottom and the empty egg shells are floating at the top again.

If you have plenty of bbs left over you can then freeze it and use it fore emergencies.

It might sound like a lot of work but at least you are not feeding the fish empty shells which might end up blocking their guts and I find that live food is more palletable to the sort of fish I keep, they only seem to peck at flake or granules but live food really excites them.

Hope this helps.
