hes been lethargic the last couple of days... ever since i put brine shrimp in from maidenhead aquatics.

now hes got white spots all over him so i put in some melafix.

and changed some water and turned the temp down a bit. any more advice?

Temp needs to be around 80 degrees to fight ich. Have you got some meds? If not, get some ASAP. White spot meds by Interpet do the trick. Wilkos do a brand too which I have heard work well. just get the meds in ASAP.

BTW, did you just tip the bag of brine shrimps in? You really need to strain them through a net so you don't pour the water into your tank.

i've treated ich before by turning temp right up and treating purely by adding salt.....look it up treating ich with salt, it worked wonders for me and it has not returned since treating it back in dec 07!

im not 100% on this but not sure melafix is a med for ich

why did you drop the temp? is it not normal to up the temp when treating for ich as this speeds up the ichs life cycle?

ich is a commen problem so dont panic sure somone with a bit more knowlage than me will reply soon with more help :good:

edited to say they type faster than me lol

oops... i meant protozin.... not melafix. what am i on about.

I will go turn the temp up now. i thought it would go quicker colder, but i was wrong. haha. oops.

i also did strain the brine shrimp through a net over the sink before i put them in.

so up to 80... whats that in c? (sorry.. dumbass here)
keep up with the protozin..

shall i put some salt in aswell??

edit.

someone said to me that ich and whitespot arent the same. is this correct? i thought they were, but then, i also turned the temp down and said id used melafix

edit 2. according to my thermometer, 32 is 80?

edit 3. haha.. sorry. the protozin bottle says treat on days 1,2,3 and 6. is this what i should do? and how long do i keep the temp up for?

think 80s about 27 mate

i wouldnt have thought the shrimp caused the ich to break out, there are a few theorys on ich as in if its an ever present or not.
one thing is for sure though stress will highly increase the chances of bringing on an outbreak.do you know of any form of stress the fish has sufferd lately?

like i said it is very commen and normaly responds well to treatments be that temp meds or the salt one,has to be aquarium salt or another type of salt that dosent contain anti cakeing agents :good:

itch and whitespot are one and the same :good:

tis aquarium salt that i have, think I should add some? how much? I have a tank somewhere between 8 n 10 gallons, how much should i put in if you advice it?

as for stress... well erm.. not sure on how long ago it was... but since I have had him, hes moved tank three times, in tank one had bust ups with a gourami, tank two bust ups with himself in the mirrored back and tank three was very happy for a few days...

now this.

i thought it unlikely to be the shrimp, twas just coincidental that i noticed a change in his behavior then.

ok first off if youve added the protazin i personaly would see how that goes for a few days, white spot meds are very good and should sort the problem.

however i will say im no expert ive treated ich with med on tropicals but have never kept a betta so wouldnt know for sure if what im saying is rite

maybe sumone else will post to confirm or otherwise

just read your other post, what temp is the tank at now?

back to 26 degrees now. crikey. i nearly cooked him.... lucky i did that big water change so he didnt notice a humongous rise in temp!!! eek!!

hes got protozin in the tank, i am gna add some aquarium salt after some more research. it cant do any harm if i dont put too much in.

he looks pale and sat and speckled.

cant tell if its ich or velvet and he wont come out for a photo.

either way protozin hsould help.

thanks all

lay off with the salt for now and give the meds a chance to do there thing :good:

ok. hes on 29 degrees now. apparently their little puddles theyre used to rise to 30 plus so he will be ok and it will help fight the illness. not 33 though.

dont want boiled bazil :(

oh rite lol  . you said he almost gets sucked up by the filter can i ask what type of filter it is? how much flow is going on in the tank?

for salt i use i half teaspoon per gal of tank water and dont add more slt with each parcial change < as in just evaporated water add in > it can get to be confusing or you can do too much i would add salt at subsquent 50 percent changes, and aquarium only , table salt has iodine and that can kill fish, good luck with ur little buddy he should be getting better soon! :good:
