Basic Reccomendation

Tall tanks are perfectly fine as long as you have enough filtration and the table can handle it, and you can get a bigger tank for more fish.
That's not actually true. The surface area of the tank is a more important factor than pure gallons in determining stocking levels. That's because surface area determines how much oxygen gets dissolved in the water. Basically, you shouldn't stock a 29g tank any more than a 20g tank.

Keep it simple. If 10g is what you can do right now and it won't get your parents on your back, then go with it. Learn how to take good care of a small group of fish and show off your clean, healthy, active tank to your family. Who knows... maybe they'll see the light and get a bigger one?

Hope things go well, whatever you decide...

Good luck!

Tis a good thing Sylvia seen the post. For iffin The Wolf would've seen someone was thinking about putting zebra danios in a 5 gallon tank....

Oh! See I thought that size of tank would be a 5 gallon or something close to that. I didn't want a tall tank because I heard the fish gasp for air. Maybe that was just goldfish... :dunno: I'm not so sure on the stability of the table... It's a few years old. Yes I probably sound very un smart right now but I still have years of schooling to go so haha help me out here. :flex: :kana: Oh no no more neon tetras! haha  Any other small fish you can think of?
Old but, the fish will only gasp for air if the tank is not given appropriate airation, meaning that it should have a good amount of surface agitation :)

I've got a five gallon tank. I have the money now to get a bigger one, but since it was an Xmas prezzie I can hardly give it back and say, thanks but no thanks, it's not big enough. All I want is a betta and maybe a ADF if my mum lets me and we find one. She hates frogs, though, so I'm not optimistic...

Dunno... someone said they get freaked if they've got too large a territory... Mum wants me to get 1 or 2 goldfish, but I don't think its big enough (its 11l).

I read that one goldfish needed like 20 gallons... or maybe that was 10... idk haha somewhere around there :flex:
