Bad Bad News....

Well...I am so upset right now that it is taking everything inside me to stop me from crying and throwing an angry fit....We had a night of thunder showers here in cali a while back....and unfortunatly I had a leaking roof! SOO since my apartment was pretty much destroyed on the roof they called people to fix it...well they kept putting it off and putting it off....until finally today they came and fixed it...well...I have my spawning tanks on a stand in my living room...along with my community girl tank and my imbellis tank....(all my males and other girls are in my room so I can watch them) Well...I decided Id go to lunch while they were going to work on my roof (since they said it should only be a couple hours...) I figured itd be fine....but when I came back...my heart was broken....Part of the roof they were working on caved in...and fell through to my house...smashing into my tanks...destroying my 5 gallon fry tank and cracked my 10 gallon...my girl tanks cover is broken through along with the light on the top cracked and broken into the tank....When I walked in I just wanted to curl up on the floor and die....my babies were all I could think about...I ran over to them...and my ten gallon was leaking but still had water in it...I ran to the kitchen and grabbed my pasta pot and scooped most the remaining water from my 10gal into it and grabbed my turkey baster and a flash light...I sat there for a while....with a flashlight (on the phone with my boyfriend balling) as I tried my hardest to find all the babies I could gather...I didnt care which tank they came from they are all siblings now....I got a few...I havent counted but I dont really care as long as I got them...I found a few in the carpet as well...I set them aside and moved to my girly tank where I scooped them all out into drinking glasses and found three of them dead from the crap that had fallen on them I checked everyone else...my imbellis tank was fine and my others were okay too...the girls look shaken but alright...my boyfriend came and helped me clean up all the glass and what water we could....and then went with me down to the land ladys office where I had told her what happened and she came up to look at it...she said theyd pay for my tanks and anything lost....and I nodded although I feel no money in the world could cover everything lost...all those babies....are gone....I am so upset...I should have moved them...Anyways sorry its so long...but I am going to do some more checking and cleaning...might count the little ones....Id get pictures but most of whats damaged is in the trash...anyways...RIP my babies...and my three girls...

I am so sorry that happened. I hope the ones that you found are ok. Like Brooklea said, don't blame yourself, you had no idea this was going to happen, it is in no way your fault at all.

What an awful ordeal to endure! I am so sorry for all of your losses. It doesn't change the end result, but all of this was beyond your control.

Thanks guys...its just hard not to kick myself you know? Its frustrating thinking of all those fish that are now gone....and to think all the effort and time and research I put into it making sure the lives I was bringing into the world I could keep in the world...so its just frustrating...but thanks for your kind words

I'd send you some chocolate chip cookies through the comp, but I don't think they'd fit.

This just makes me heartsick!!! Paying for the stuff sure won't bring the little babies back to life!!! It all just makes me really heartsick to hear stories like this!! Couldn't the construction workers been more careful?! I am really glad that you were not under the ceiling when it went. We had a ceiling collapse years ago during a bad rainstorm and usually I would have been sitting there but I had to get something from the other room and it went--right where I would have been. That stuff is scary!!!

Fishmom!~ I am glad you weren't under that as well!!! It really is scary...Thats what my boyfriend said to me when he walked in...the first thing he said...but of course I was just looking at it as my fish....but when I think about it...you're right it is scary

well...I lost another girl....and fear there may be more losses I think its from the stuff in the light that broke into the tank....any ideas anyone on what to do....so i can prevent my other girls from getting sick?

Aaa sweetie, just be glad you gave them the best chance they had, and that this was an 'act of god' or of whatever force that you could not avoid. You did your best sweetie. I know how you feel tho - I lookat my babies as miracles of life, I value them so much. Best wishes, and hope that it is all sorted soon

Just go for lots and lots of water changes, carbon in the filter too if you aren't using any meds. Hope they're OK, but when the fry grow up you'll take heart in knowing they're survivors Good luck with them
