Baby Pleco

Hi there,

I have one exactly the same as yours and he is most definately a BN plec. He loves to munch on courgette too so drop some in once or twice a week. Don't forget to weight it down tho.

Oh thanks for that!

I haven't seen him eating his algae discs and was wondering, does the algae dilute into the tank water and he gets it from that? He is moving around a lot and seems to be sucking my ornaments and tank sides.

I've also been thinking about what would be suited to him in a tank, so I have purchased white sand for the flooring, moss ball, bogwood and he now has a den to hid in. Really looking forward to setting up my new tank!

plecs normally eat most when the lights are out throughout the day they just graze on algea i normally put some courgette or cucumber in just before lights out same with the algea waffers

When you say 'weight it down', would burrying part of it in the gravel be ok? or should I put them in his hide out?

I normally use a teaspoon. Push the end into a sizeable piece of courgette and that will stop it floating around the tank. If he has a hide out I would place it close to it. I normally leave mine in for about 24 hours. After that it does start to rot.

All the best.

Thanks!

I put in qtr of an algae disc about 9pm last night, came down this morning and finally, he has eaten it!

I'm planning my newer tank at the moment and really excited. I've got a coconut hideout for him, I will be putting bogwood in, once it has gone through that soaking process. He has pure white substrate sand and other bits n bobs too.

I'm really getting into this lol

Don't forget to soak the bogwood for about a week so that you get most of the tanins out of the wood. You can boil it in a pan too if it isn't too large which can help speed up the process.
