:) I seem to have at least 6 small otto fry in my tank.... So happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just saw them yesterday.... So tiny, they cling mostly too the glass but I have seen them swimming along the plants as well... Right now they are mostly eyes with a little squiggle attached to them.... Will try to take pic and update with my progress... I love my ottos

That is great, not something you see everyday. Your fish must be real happy.

So happy... :D.... I hear/read that ottos don't breed very often either, makes me a extra proud mom.... Any advice would be great too.....

Ahhhhhhhh, they are so cute, and seem to school just like there parents.... Ottos are still to small to take pics of, but here is a quick pic of my tank( my betta is much pretter than pic shows)......

So sad, had a ten hour power out day before yesterday, think I may have lost all but one of my fry due to the water temp dropping too much... :(...... Still looking for more survivors, but it's not looking good......... booooooooooo, stupid no power..... Will keep updating....

Only just saw this thread. Firstly, congrats on spawning the oto's. Although apparently hard to do, it is the easy part. Raising the fry is difficult and they seem to need everything to be perfect in order to survive.

If you click on my sig at the bottom, I have a thread where we were able to spawn and raise fry. Hope you find some useful info.

I saw a 5 strong group of our oto's spawning last night. Unfortunately our SAE's were following closely, so any eggs are probably last nights dinner.

Good luck :good:

Carmen :D

i would've thought your betta might have found little wiggly things a nice snack too :S

So the “babys†are starting to look more like ottos now, they have little body’s now, instead of just eyes….. I have counted six in total today and it almost seems like they hatched in two batches as two of them are ½ the size as the other four….. Actually saw a couple of them swimming around a bit, leaf, to leaf….. They definitely school just like their parents… Funny thing is I have NEVER seen my ottos breeding…..While I have watched all my other fish constantly mate (other thank my betta of course) and had no successful fry from them, just LOTS of eggs (that I assume get gobbled up)…… Have tried to get pictures, but I’m discovering my camera SUCKS for getting good fish pics…. Any advice on how to get good glare free pics of fish?????

Yesterday I spent some time giving my tank a close inspection…… And I counted 15 little ottos ….. :)

Sad news…. Two days ago I topped off my water (added about 4-5 L), and the water change seems to have reduced my otto population by ½…. So lesson learned, and a sad lesson at that……. Will keep any additions of new water smaller in the future… As always the new water has gotten my tank into a breeding frenzy, so hopefully I’ll do better this time keeping my babies alive….. Will keep updating about the “survivorsâ€â€¦â€¦

You may not want to hear this, but I would be willing to bet they are zebra danio fry. I actually had a trio of ottos in a 20 gal with a betta and zebras and at first I thought they were otto fry too, because they stuck to the glass. But apparently zebra fry do to. If you look up a pic of zebra fry I bet it would look like what you have. Zebra danios are some of the easiest fish to breed. :)

Interesting, I'll look into that..... The only male Danio I have is a Leopard, and I'm not sure about the crossbreeding and how that works.... Looks like I have some "googleing" to do......

I like ottos very much. I hope we had some of the here to come and help the pleco in cleaning the tank coz the pleco cant himself so many places to clean.

Just to add a comment, I do hope they are otto fry!! coul you try screwcumbering or weighting some cucumber and see if they go for it perhaps?...

Also, to be honest leopard and zebras are pretty much the same species and will breed readily. good luck! I want otto for my tank!

I've bred danios in the past and the fry are free swimming as soon as they are a few days old (eg used their egg sacks up resting on the bottom)
I'm hopeful for you that they are ottos...

as for the photos, rest the camera on some thing sturdy, turn off the room lights and turn off the flash. turn on macro mode and shoot away, fingers crossed at least one of the tens you'll tank will come out ok :)
