After many attempts with the manual zoom on my mum's digital camera, I finally got a picture of one of my three week old baby bettas! B)

Not really, it looks like virtually every other baby fish I've ever seen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll actually grow up to be adults this time. Last time I bred my fighters, I put them in a breeding trap in my main tank whilst cleaning out the fry tank, and a female minnow jumped in and ate all 10 of my babies!

:hi: to the forum. It seems as though you haven't introduced yourself in the newbie section.

How big was the bacth this time?

Er...you probably won't agree with what I'm about to say, but rest assured, I'm not saying it for shock value, especially after I read your pinned message about betta breeding.
After about two days after spawning, I take the male out, and remove any eggs that haven't hatched. Usually I have about 50 fry swimming below the nest, and around the tank. After a couple more days, I remove some more of the fry, which must seem exceedingly harsh to everyone, but I simply don't have enough room for more than 20 fish when they grow up, and I believe in quality over quantity, which I think can be achieved if there are fewer fish to concentrate on. I think there are about 15-20 in the tank at the moment.

As for wuv's question, the dad is a bluish green veiltail, as I can guess from your tail variety pinned post, and the mum is a pretty standard dark blue female.

I only ask because that's the first time I've seen a VT fry. I assumed it was because of the pointed caudal fin. He's very cute just the same :p I've always wondered what VT 3 week olds look like :)

Thanks for putting my mind at rest about that, I feel pretty bad when I do it, but I like to think I'm doing their brothers and sisters a favour.

I don't think I'm quite prize-fish breeding material, but I'll post more pics of them when they grow up, to see if anyone thinks I should breed a particular strain of them.

I'm not immensely surprised you haven't seen a veiltail fry, or at least don't remember one, wuv. You always seem to be breeding something a little more elaborate than a boring pet-store-esque fish!

I'm eagerly anticipating photos of your triple tail as well!
