baby bettas

lol okay, as long as i have an esitmate so i know what to expect :)

do you put any live plants in the breeding tank after hte parents are removed and the fry are free swimming? or do you just keep the fake ones in there? what about plants in the growout fry tank?

i can't seem to get a hold of java moss, or any other type of floating plants here..none of the local lfs or lps has it :S

i found a little store that will take them off of me. also i asked my school if they wanted any and they said that they might take a few to have living in their science rooms.

i put plastic plants in the breeding tank. i have found that if you levae the plants in there and they are pretty dense some of the fry dont notice its feeding time because thye are hiding. i usually leave them in anyways so bullied fry can hide.
remove mom right away. leave dad untill they are free swimming.
yeah i have never actually seen any good plannts at a lfs-you have to get them online or if you have a nice store, they might be able to order some for you.

giving baby bettas to petsmart is basically like killing them slowly and painfully.. try to sell em through a local paper or something

My fry just started free swimming today... and they have some java moss, hornwort, dwarf hygrophilia, anacharis, and egeria najas to forage through. :)

They aren't doing it much so far... just hanging out near the nest. Maybe they still have some egg yolk to munch on.

The following sites have some very nice instructions on how to care for them in the various stages of growth:

And thanks for the good word, jacblades. :)
