My orange Platy has had lots of babies but they all seem to be females is this usual? What does everyone do with their babies when they get too many for their tank? I took 10 babies to a local shop but is was very sad to see them go. I have been back a couple of times to see them and they seem to be doing well. My Platy seems to have a few babies every 3 weeks and has done for about 3 months even though I have put the males into my other tank. I am new to the site and love it. Hope someone gets this message

I read somewhere that female platies are able to store sperm for up to 3 months, which might explain why some of your fish are still getting pregnant, the other case could be that you have a sneaky male in the tank that you haven't moved yet ;)

regarding giving away your platies....if you dont have the room where else could you put them? its good that your LFS is taking in your fry :)

I don't seem to have that problem at the moment due to casualties either by the parents eating the fry or the fry being sucked up my filters. :(

:) It is usual for female to have babies even if you don't have amale bacause they can restore the sperm. You can only sex the fry when they are about couple months old. :fish: I have platy fry too and they are 2 days old and they all look like females! So don't worry!
And yeah did they pay you in the pet store for the fry?
You can let your fry get older and then sell them I heard you get more!!! :D
Anyway it's ur business! 8)

When I gave my babies to local LFS they were about 10 weeks old and half and inch long. No they did not pay me for them but I was just glad to see them go to a nice tank. This particular shop keeps a tank just for this use. The babies I have in my tank now are 2 months old are even with magnifying glass they are still females. I am sure I have not had one male
