I attached a foam cup to my betta, Ares's tank yesterday. This morning I woke up to find it full of bubbles and him tending it, and occasionally swimming over to look at the female. It was cute. :p

But anyway, my mom said I could get a female off of the internet to breed one of my bettas... except I kind of have a money limit, of 40-30 dollars.. which will probably buy nothing. Unfortunately, delta females are hard to find, I'd presume, but I have a ct... Except he hasn't built any bubblenests. Anyway, if it's under $40 dollars I suppose I could buy a pair too, but normally they're higher than that, aren't they?

So at the moment I'm browsing Aquabid. Does anyone happen to have them for sale here? Aka, a ct or delta female?

It really all depends on if that 30-40 bucks includes shipping. If it does, you could easily get a cheap pair off aquabid from thailand breeders which will cost around 40 bucks in -total- including shipping. If it doesn't, I'd suggest you buy a quality pair like HMPKs or a pair of expensive halfmoons. Delta females aren't really hard to find. Think the rule to get SDs and such would be to spawn a HM / SD to a female with at least 4 rayed branching. If you don't mind small flaws like degrees of the finnage on a HM, you could VERY easily find a cheap and pretty pair. Usually, selective breeders from thailand or singapore just sell those for cheap.

This is my beginning pair (first breeding) so minor flaws don't really matter, as long as I don't get a half-way dead betta with barely any water and whitespot all over it, because my mom says she won't refund my purchase.. But yes, that includes shipping. I've seen plenty of totally gorgeous bettas

Geeze, I just found the SP section on aquabid... and they have a bunch of 30-ish pairs. Although I kinda want a female instead of a pair, I know, I'm kind of cheesy. But if I spawn my mom's paying for a 20g tank and I'm hoping to pitch in the money for an extra 10 gallons plus gravel, decorations and the like. Plus, at petsmart, the live plants there are freaking expensive, and I want to recreate a densly-planted 30 gallon sorority for my females that I like.. and then they might be more peaceful because they're spawn sisters. And cheapish acrylic tanks for a few males... or maybe just 1 gallon jars, which we have a few of in out shed.. but.. eh.

But I would like a pair that is somewhat decent so I can sell one or two off of aquabid and not put them in those tiny little cups like at the petshop. Still, I'm looking for maybe a reddish female because Ares (who I would love to breed because he's gorgeous) has red fins. A marble would be even better.

I kind of want to get them shipped before it gets too cold in case they don't have heat packs, so I jhave to figure it out before two months... I've got the breeding tank (10 gallon, few largish rocks, plants for the female to hide in, bubblenest and the like) covered, so I'm set for a bit.

The pet shop is getting a new shipment in on Thursday and we go to town on Friday, so maybe they'll have som SDF.. though I doubt it, they only get vt females in. They're the ones who think that female's don't have tail types. :grr: I'm going to bring them some ct, sd, and vt, dt, all that, pictures of female bettas to prove them wrong. Fun. 'Cept they do get thai flags. :hyper:

Awesome :* Sounds like your having fun :p As for plants, screw petsmart and those places. You could easily get a 10g tub full of plants for 25 dollars as I did. I got AMAZING amounts of different varities of plants and they were top notch. You could also mail plants using wet newspaper to wrap the plants around and put it into a ziplock bag, into the envelope and mail it. GL

Haha, Java ferns were $2.00 dollars each.. I'm not really sure if that's average, but they didn't look so good anyway.

Anyway, I'm checking Aquabid daily for delta/super delta females... there's an auction for two, but it's over thirty dollars and I want one, prefferably under $35.

Yay! :yahoo: That's awesome, I'm really happy for ya. :)

I'd actually be on the lookout for a HM female rather than a delta/SD one. You're much more likely to sell HMs rather than deltas and SDs (at least to people other than a pet store), and since your male is a SD, try to find a female that has the tail span that your male lacks. I think a lot of the fun of breeding bettas is trying to find two fish that compliment each other nicely. :) Even though it's your first spawn and you might not be that picky, it really is a good idea to start out with a quality pair because you're pretty much guaranteed to find homes for them. You don't want to be stuck with a bunch of fish you can't sell, because then you won't have room for another spawn. Just my two-cents. ;)

BTW, could you post a photo of your male?

UPDATE: Asked my mom when I could order, and she said in two weeks so I could wash my dad's car, raise an extra $10 for gravel and plants for her tank. Yay!

Yeah, that's true, I don't think I'll want to buy another 20-30 gallon. But HM females should be easier to find off of Aquabid, and maybe I'll find a red one. :hyper: Anyway, here's a shot of Ares, except he's not flaring:

That was, though, in the 2.5 gallon and now he's in the ten. If you want to see him flaring here's a video clip:
Here.
I'll see if I can get a picture of him flaring with my dad's camera tonight. Though, for now, I'm off to look on Aquabid for HM females.

i would almost definately order that yellow SD pair... lovely colours and only $40 all together :) and they arein the USA so no need to acclimitate to different conditions

I noticed all of those. But I can only start looking in two weeks.. so I have to wait until they have ones that can arrive that late.

K.J. check out luvmybetta.com. Last time I checked she had some awesome females as low as 5 bucks. You can definitely get a female or possibly even a male and female for around $30 to $40...that's with shipping included!! Jennifer (luvmybetta) is a great person to get fish from. A couple of months ago, I purchased a gorgeous HM male, a HMx female and plakat female from her for $50 (with priority shipping included in that price)...oh yeah, she also included an extra.
