Hello.

I've seen various posts on this topic before but I just wanted to double check.

I have 2 Bandit Cory's & 6 Guppies currently. I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks soon and wanted some advice on feeding.

Are feeding blocks bad for fish?
Shall I over feed them before I go & just feed them as normal when I get back?

Thanks

Never overfeed as this will leave you with massive water quality issues.

Feeding blocks are fine, but it's better (if possible for you) to separate the food into daily feedings in ziplocked bags and have someone physically feed them.

You could also use an automatic feeder, but I wouldn't trust one as far as I could throw it.

Or don't feed them at all, or maybe once in the middle of your holiday. If I were away for two weeks I'd ask whoever came around to sort out my cats to put a pre-measured amount of food in half way through the holiday and that's it.

healthy fish can go 2 weeks without food, to be on the safe side i would just get them fed the once after a week like has been said above :good:

I have left a couple of feeder pyramids in the tank whilst away for 2 weeks
several times.
Usually find they are about 1/2 dissolved on my return so I feel that at least
the fish have got something to eat while I am away.
Certainly never had a problem with them, and don't appear to be any water
quality issues.
:good:

will never use holiday blocks, have heard horror stories about them.. .

as said healthy fish can go for 2 weeks with no food comfortably.. i often do not feed my fish for a good week to try to mimic their natural environment.
just feed them before you go away (not too much) and leave them to it. fish dont understand the size of their stomachs so in the wild they stuff their faces (like they do in aquaria) becuase they do not know when their next meal will be..

..or build them up to it.. dont feed them for 4-5 days, then feed them... then dont feed them for another week.. then feed them again. etc.

glad this topic's up and running at the moment, i'm in the same boat.

Does anyone know if the two week rule applies to cherry and amano shrimp too?
