Aussie's 187 Gal Planted Tank

im back, i have have a massive algae attack over the past 3 weeks and im still not sure now to kill it off. We called it green weed over here in australia , it grows in our river and stuff and fish eat it but not my sae's from some reason. Here is a picture off it, sry its not in focus here in another one with it in the other shot plants.

I took out the Ludwigia, Wisteria and Zosterfolia casue it was fully of it and put into a spare tank while ill fix the problem in the main one. I have been told a couple of ways to try and get around it:
1) increase the co2 to over 40ppm
2)shorten the lighting hours and remove
3) total blackout for 2-3 days
4) restart again lol but i will never do that. So what do you guys think will be best?

here are some other pictures aswell.
I might have my hands on a stump to go in the tank in a couple of weeks in going to try and carve it a bit so it fits over my weir in the tank. here is what is left after i pull the plants out. Full tank shot
I also got some brine shrimp eggs and the fish get a feed of them every 2nd day, here is a ram chasing after some. The yellows are still in there, becasue there new home is still currently getting completed, they have grow alot and im happy with them but they cant stay in there for my future plans, Yellow and finally my anubais nana has been flowering every couple of days, here is prob my best picture of a new bud coming out. Flower
Well thats it, please help me out with this algae

I also have algae problems and have been really looking into the causes and trying to fix the problem.

I don't want to start again either and personally I can't see the point unless you have that horrible cyano one.

I wouldnt raise the CO2 to 40ppm. In the links in the sticky at the top it says in one that above 25 is harmful to fish, in another above 30 is harmful. So I wouldnt risk 40ppm.

If my algae ever got critically bad I'd give the blackout a go.

But long term I'd say you need to figure out the problem. Cos even if you temporarily kill it off, surely if all the parameters are the same it'll come back?

Well seems a life time ago i updated my thread but seeing i got some time i might.

I have swapped rooms with my brother since lst update so i have had to resetup my tank. I have gone back to normal gravel and doubled my lighting. I have gone for a different approach this time with just many driftwood and anubias and hav added some others.

I am going for a planted discus tank but will wait on the discus until i get the ferts started and settled, atm waiting on some testing equip.
IT only has a trio of bristlenose, 5 ottos, 4 peppermints bristlenose and one bolivan ram

So some pics

New lighting is 2x 130 watt compact fluros

Tanks looking good, i like the minimalist look with the plants on the wood looks natural.

Have you thought of a black background as it would set your plants and fish off nicely.

Have you decided how many and what type of discus you want yet.

i had a black background but didnt like it that much,
Well got a wish list going, would only put 8 or 10 in there at the max.
Was thinking some:
Penang Eruptions
Wild Greens
San Merah
Red Turquoise
Blue Turquoise
White swan
any of them, but my fav are the Penang Eruptions's or red turqs

Wow! I just read your entire thread, and that tank has gone through some changes. It looks great, though. How hard was it to move from one room to another? That tank is just huge! Seeing threads like these makes me feel really puny. :-(

yea it was the biggest pain, besides when we first moved it into my house, the tank itself isnt really that heavy, 2 men should be able to carry it by them selves, well me and my dad lol. The hardest put is pulling everything apart then resetting up, making sure no leaks and stuff, not fun,

Excuse me, but how much did the whole setup cost at the begining, without any of the later changes?

Well alot really, i did rush in and waste a bot of money but we all learn from our mistakes. i spent over $1800 australia to get everything at first not including previous fish and plants then have added about another 600 to that with newer equipment. I actually have made over 750 back from the tank in selling plants and fish back to the LFS, so still more money to make, but bigger tank, means depper pocket

Nice tank!
Love the large tanks!
I miss my 135 gallon tank
Someday..

Pretty intense lighting
Keep that CO2 over 30ppm, Nitrates n Phosphates up, and look into EI dosing...
Its working for me wonderfully

yea thanxs for the list hav been doing a little reading into it, but have forund this thing over at aquatic plant central called the fertilator, you put in your levels etc, and suggest ways to add your ferts, really good, but will look into the EI way
